Dramatic Explosion at Mexico City Restaurant Sends Debris Flying Into Road

About 10 people were injured and hospitalized, the Mexico City mayor said.

— -- An explosion resembling one in a Michael Bay summer blockbuster sent a Mexico City restaurant up in smoke. Debris and some large objects flew into a busy roadway.

"It looks like there was an accumulation of gas inside the restaurant," Mexico City Mayor Miguel Mancera told Milenio TV.

About 10 or 11 people were injured and hospitalized, Mancera said, according to Milenio TV.

Video of the explosion was posted to an official city Twitter account.
