Family of American Student Killed Says She Was a 'Strong Woman'

Nohemi Gonazlez was on a semester abroad program in Paris

— -- The family of an American student killed in Friday’s Paris attacks say their daughter was a "strong young woman."

Her stepfather, Jose Hernandez, and mother, Beatriz Gonzalez, spoke lovingly of Nohemi Gonzalez, 23, who was a senior at California State University Long Beach but was attending Strate College of Design in Paris, for a semester abroad program, the school said.

"She was happy, excited," her stepfather said. "She was having the time of her life" studying in France.

"When she wanted to do something, she committed herself to what she wanted to do," he said.

She was due to return the U.S. next year.

Jose Hernandez and Beatriz Gonzalez said they found out about their daughter’s death from her boyfriend.

When asked how she felt about the attackers, Beatriz Gonzalez said, "I have no words. I can say nothing."

The last time they communicated with their daughter was Wednesday over Facebook. Gonzalez said she told her daughter they were having dinner with her boyfriend, and Nohemi said she wished she was there.

"She was very strong, very committed to what she decided to do," Gonzalez said.
