Incredible Green 'Fireball Meteor' in Thailand Caught on Camera
The color comes from meteor's chemical composition.
LONDON -- Incredible footage has emerged showing a "fireball meteor" dashing through the sky in Thailand’s capital of Bangkok Monday evening.
The Thai Astronomical Society confirmed on its Facebook page that the falling object was a bright-green meteor, explaining that the color resulted from its chemical composition.
"In terms of science, this event is very rare," the nonprofit added on its public page, which linked to dash-cam recordings of the event.
A fireball is another term for a very bright meteor, the American Meteor Society writes on its website, adding that the vast majority of fireballs occur over oceans and uninhabited regions, and that it is rare to detect one at night.
