7 Injured When Flight From Miami to Italy Hits Turbulence

The flight was diverted for landing in Newfoundland.

"American Airlines flight 206 from Miami to Milan briefly encountered severe turbulence. The aircraft landed safely at in Newfoundland, Canada, where it was met by paramedics who evaluated passengers and crew. Three flight attendants and four passengers were transported to a local hospital for further evaluation," American Airlines spokesman Ross Feinstein said. "We are taking care of our passengers and crew, and we are working on next steps to get them safely to their destination."

According to a recording of the communication from the plane posted on LiveATC.net, the most seriously injured person was a flight attendant, who was bleeding.

At least four ambulances and a fire truck were seen on the tarmac in St. John's, Newfoundland, The Associated Press reported.
