Mother of Twin Girls Is First Fatality Named in Brussels Attacks

— -- The bombings in Brussels have claimed the life of a Peruvian woman who is also the mother of twin baby girls, Peruvian officials said today.

Peru’s foreign minister released a statement on Facebook naming Adelma Tapia Ruiz, 36, as the first confirmed fatality of the attacks.

Ruiz was at the airport with her two 3-year-old daughters at the time of the bombings and one of her children was also injured, according to Peruvian news agency Peru21.

Her brother, Fernando Tapia, confirmed her death to the news agency today.

Tapia also told the BBC that his sister was en route to New York before the bombings happened and that she had planned to visit him in Peru this year.
