Police in Colombia Seize More Than 8 Tons of Cocaine in 'Largest Ever' Drug Bust
Three people were arrested during the police operation.
— -- Authorities in Colombia have intercepted more than eight tons of cocaine in what they claim to be the country's largest seizure ever.
The drugs were discovered inside an underground hole located on a banana farm in the Caribbean town of Turbo, about 300 miles from Bogota, the country's capital, according to police.
Colombian President Juan Manuel Santos said on Twitter the seizure was the largest in the country's history and a "major blow to criminals."
Police said the 359 bags of cocaine belonged to the Clan Usuga clan, the country's largest cocaine-trafficking organization.
Three people were arrested during the police operation.
Authorities said the drugs were bound for the United States.
