Pope Francis Visits Cuba: Live Updates
Pope Francis is spending his last full day in Cuba ahead of his trip to the U.S.
-- Ahead of his trip to the United States, Pope Francis travels to Cuba today.
During his 9-day visit to Cuba and the U.S., Francis will become the first pope to address Congress. He's the third pontiff to visit Cuba in the last 17 years.
His visit means much to both countries leaders, as Pope Francis secretly brokered the agreement to restore relations between the U.S. and Cuba and advocated for the release of Alan Gross, the American who was held by the Cubans for five years before his release in 2014.
Last year, the pope wrote letters to President Obama and President Raul Castro urging them to start a new phase of the relationship between their two countries. The two spoke Friday ahead of his visit.
