• Staff Sgt. Christian Longsworth, 26, of Newark, N.J., died in Oruzgan province, Afghanistan, on May 19, from wounds sustained when his convoy came under enemy small arms fire.

• Lt. Col. Joseph J. Fenty, 41, of Florida; Chief Warrant Officer 3 Eric W. Totten, 34, of Texas; Chief Warrant Officer 2 Christopher B. Donaldson, 28, of Illinois; Staff Sgt. Christopher T. Howick, 34, of Hamburg, N.Y.; Sgt. Bryan A. Brewster, 24, of Fontana, Calif.; Sgt. John C. Griffith, 33, of Las Vegas; Sgt. Jeffery S. Wiekamp, 23, of Utopia, Texas; Spc. Justin L. O'Donohoe, 27, of San Diego; Spc. David N. Timmons Jr., 23, of Lewisville, N.C.; and Pfc. Brian M. Moquin Jr., 19, of Worcester, Mass.; died east of Abad, Afghanistan, in the Kunar province, on May 5, when their CH-47 Chinook helicopter crashed during combat operations.

• Capt. Clayton L. Adamkavicius, 43, of Fairdale, Ky., died of injuries sustained in Abu Ghurayb, Afghanistan, on April 21, when he came under enemy small arms fire during combat operations.

• Sgt. 1st Class John T. Stone, 52, of Norwich, Vt., died March 28 in Lashkagar, Afghanistan as a result of enemy mortar and small arms attacks during combat operations.

• Staff Sgt. Christopher L. Robinson, 36, Brandon, Miss., died in Sangain District, Afghanistan on March 25, when his vehicle came under enemy small arms fire during combat operations.

• Staff Sgt. Joseph, R. Ray, 29, of Asheville, N.C.; Sgt. Kevin D. Akins, 29, of Burnsville, N.C.; Sgt. Anton J. Hiett, 25, of Mount Airy, N.C.; and Spc. Joshua L. Hill, 24, of Fairmount, Ind.; died west of Asadabad, Afghanistan, on March 12, when an improvised explosive device detonated near their vehicle.

• Lance Cpl. Nicholas R. Anderson, 21, of Sauk City, Wis., died March 13 in a non-hostile vehicle accident in Afghanistan.

• Master Sgt. Emigdio E. Elizarraras, 37, of Pico Rivera, Calif., died in Tarin Kowt, Afghanistan on Feb. 28, when an improvised explosive device detonated near his vehicle.

• Marine 1st Lt. Brandon R. Dronet, 33, of Erath, La.; Sgt. James F. Fordyce, 22, of Newton Square, Pa.; Lance Cpl. Samuel W. Large Jr., 21, of Villa Rica, Ga.; Sgt. Donnie Leo F. Levens, 25, of Long Beach, Miss.; Cpl. Matthieu Marcellus, 31, of Gainesville, Fla.; Sgt. Jonathan E. McColley, 23, of Gettysburg, Pa.; Lance Cpl. Nicholas J. Sovie, 20, of Ogdensburg, N.Y.; and Capt. Bryan D. Willard, 33, of Hummelstown, Pa.; and airmen Sr Airman Alecia S. Good, 23, of Broadview Heights, Ohio.; and Staff Sgt. Luis M. Melendez Sanchez, 33, of Bayamon, Puerto Rico; died Feb. 17 in a helicopter crash in northern Djibouti.

• Sgt. 1st Class Chad A. Gonsalves, 31, of Turlock, Calif.; Staff Sgt. Edwin H. Dazachacon, 38, of Belleville, Ill.; Staff Sgt. Clinton T. Newman, 26, of San Antonio; and Sgt. Alberto D. Montrond, 27, of Suffolk, Mass.; died north of Deh Rawod, Afghanistan, on Feb. 13, when an improvised explosive device detonated near their vehicle.

• Pfc. Matthew L. Bertolino, 20, of Hampstead, N.H., died Feb. 9, when the vehicle he was traveling in was involved in a rollover while operating as part of a combat patrol near Jalalabad, Afghanistan.

• Petty Officer 3rd Class John T. Fralish, 30, of New Kingstown, Pa., died Feb. 6, when enemy forces opened fire on a U.S. patrol northwest of Methar Lam in Laghman Province, Afghanistan.

• Lance Cpl. Billy D. Brixey Jr., 21, of Ferriday, La., died Jan. 27 at Landstuhl Regional Medical Center, Germany, from wounds received as a result of an improvised explosive device while traveling in a convoy in Afghanistan on Jan. 25.

2005

• 1st Sgt. Tobias C. Meister, 30, of Jenks, Okla., died south of Asadabad, Afghanistan on Dec. 28, when an improvised explosive device detonated near his vehicle.

• Pfc. Jason D. Hasenauer, 21, of Hilton, N.Y., died near Kandahar, Afghanistan, on Dec. 28, when his vehicle accidentally rolled over during patrol operations.

• Sgt. 1st Class John D. Morton, 31, of Stanton, Ky., died in Shah Wali Kot, Afghanistan on Dec. 15, when his dismounted patrol came under attack.

• Cpl. Matthew P. Steyart, 21, of Mount Shasta, Calif., died in Shah Wali Kot, Afghanistan, on Nov. 22, when an improvised explosive device detonated near his vehicle.

• Petty Officer 3rd Class Emory J. Turpin, 23, of Dahlonega, Ga., died Nov. 20 when he drowned in the Seychelles.

• Sgt. 1st Class James S. Ochsner, 36, of Waukegan, Ill., died in Orgun-E, Afghanistan, on Nov. 15, when an improvised explosive device detonated near his vehicle.

• Staff Sgt. Travis W. Nixon, 24, of Saint John, Wash., died from injuries sustained north of Lwara, Afghanistan, on Oct. 29, when his patrol was attacked.

• Pfc. Joseph Cruz, 22, of Whittier, Calif., died in Bagram, Afghanistan, on Oct. 16, of non-combat related injuries sustained in an accident at Organ-E, Afghanistan, on Oct. 15.

• Petty Officer 3rd Class Fabricio Moreno, 26, of Brooklyn, N.Y., was killed Oct. 14 in a single-vehicle accident in Manda Bay, Kenya.

• Staff Sgt. Troy S. Ezernack, 39, of Lancaster, Pa., died in Qalat, Afghanistan, on Oct. 9, of injuries sustained earlier that day when his combat patrol was attacked.

• Pfc. Benny S. Franklin, 19, of Hammond, La., died in Kandahar, Afghanistan, on Oct. 7, of injuries sustained earlier that day in Helmand, Afghanistan, when he stepped on a landmine.

• Sgt. 1st Class Moses E. Armstead, 44, of Rochester, N.Y., died at Landstuhl Regional Medical Center in Landstuhl, Germany, on Oct. 6, of a non-combat related illness identified on Oct. 5, as he was returning from leave status and preparing to redeploy to Afghanistan.

• Staff Sgt. John G. Doles, 29, of Claremore, Okla., died in Shah Wali, Afghanistan, on Sept. 30, during patrol operations when his unit was attacked.

• Sgt. 1st Class James J. Stoddard Jr., 29, of Crofton, Md., died in Afghanistan on Sept. 30, when his vehicle accidentally rolled over.

• Staff Sgt. Robert F. White, 34, of Cross Lanes, W.Va, died west of Kandahar, Afghanistan on Sept. 26 when his mounted patrol was engaged by enemy forces.

• Lance Cpl. Steven A. Valdez, 20, of McRea, Ark., died Sept. 26 from enemy mortar fire at Camp Blessing, Afghanistan.

• Chief Warrant Officer 3 John M. Flynn, 36, of Sparks, Nev.; Warrant Officer Adrian B. Stump, 22, of Pendleton, Ore.; Staff Sgt. Tane T. Baum, 30, of Pendleton, Ore.; Sgt. Kenneth G. Ross, 24, of Peoria, Ariz.; Sgt. Patrick D. Stewart, 35, of Fernley, Nev.; died southwest of Deh Chopan, Afghanistan, on Sept. 25, when their CH-47 Chinook helicopter crashed.

• Lance Cpl. Ryan J. Nass, 21, of Franklin, Wis., died Sept. 3 from a non-hostile gunshot wound at Camp Blessing, Afghanistan.

• 1st Lt. Derek S. Hines, 25, of Newburyport, Mass., died on Sept. 1, 2005, in Baylough, Afghanistan, when his unit was conducting security operations and came under attack.

• Staff Sgt. Damion G. Campbell, 23, of Baltimore, died Aug. 26, 2005, in Khayr Kot, Afghanistan, where an improvised explosive device detonated near his vehicle.

• Spc. Blake W. Hall, 20, of East Prairie, Mo.; 1st Lt. Joshua M. Hyland, 31, of Missoula, Mont.; Sgt. Michael R. Lehmiller, 23, of Anderson, S.C.; and Pvt. Christopher L. Palmer, 22, of Sacramento, Calif.; died on Aug. 21 near Baylough, Afghanistan, when an improvised explosive device detonated near their vehicle.

• Lance Cpl. Phillip C. George, 22, of Houston, died Aug. 18 from enemy small arms fire while conducting combat operations near Taleban, Afghanistan.

• 1st Lt. Laura M. Walker, 24, of Texas; and Sgt. Robert G. Davis, 23, of Jackson, Mo.; died on Aug. 18, 2005, in Kandahar, Afghanistan, when an improvised explosive device detonated underneath their vehicle.

• Capt. Jeremy A. Chandler, 30, of Clarksville, Tenn., died Aug. 11 in Tarin Kowt, Afghanistan, while he was conducting training operations at Forward Operating Base Ripley.

• Sgt. Edward R. Heselton, 23, of Easley, S.C., died on Aug. 11, in Orgun-E, Afghanistan, when ordnance exploded near his vehicle.

• Spc. Christopher M. Katzenberger, 25, of St. Louis, died on Aug. 9 in Bagram, Afghanistan, of injuries sustained earlier that day in Ghazni, Afghanistan, where an improvised explosive device detonated near his vehicle.

• Staff Sgt. Christopher M. Falkel, 22, of Highlands Ranch, Colo., died Aug. 8 in Deh Afghan, Afghanistan, when his unit was conducting combat operations and was engaged by enemy forces.

• Pvt. 1st Class Damian J. Garza, 19, of Odessa, Texas; and Pvt. John M. Henderson Jr., 21, of Columbus, Ga.; died on Aug. 4, in Jalalabad, Afghanistan, when their vehicle left the road and went into a river.

• Gunnery Sgt. Theodore Clark Jr., 31, of Emporia, Va., died Aug. 4 when his vehicle was struck by an improvised explosive device near Gardez, Afghanistan.

• Staff Sgt. Michael W. Schafer, 25, of Spring Hill, Fla., died July 25 in Oruzgan, Afghanistan, when he was shot by enemy forces.

• Sgt. Jason T. Palmerton, 25, of Auburn, Neb., died on July 23 in Qal'eh-Yegaz, Afghanistan, where he came under enemy small arms fire while conducting a dismounted patrol.

• Petty Officer 2nd Class Matthew G. Axelson, 29, of Cupertino, Calif, died June 28 while conducting counter-terrorism operations in Kunar province, Afghanistan.

• Petty Officer 2nd Class Danny P. Dietz, 25, of Littleton, Colo.; and Lt. Michael P. Murphy, 29, of Patchogue, N.Y.; died June 28 while conducting counter-terrorism operations in Kunar Province, Afghanistan.

• Lance Cpl. Kevin B. Joyce, 19, of Ganado, Ariz., died June 25 after falling into the Pech River while conducting combat operations in Afghanistan.

• Maj. Duane W. Dively, 43, of Rancho California, Calif., died June 22 in Southwest Asia, in the crash of a U-2 aircraft.

• Staff Sgt. Christopher N. Piper, 43, of Marblehead, Mass., died on June 16 at the Brooke Army Medical Center, Fort Sam Houston, Texas, from injuries sustained on June 3 when an improvised explosive device detonated near his military vehicle in Orgun-E, Afghanistan.

• Sgt. First Class Victor H. Cervantes, 27, of Stockton, Calif., died June 10 in Orgun-e, Afghanistan, when he came under small arms fire while on patrol.

• Pfc. Emmanuel Hernandez, 22, of Yauco, Puerto Rico, died June 8 in Shkin, Afghanistan, when his helicopter-landing zone came under enemy fire.

• Sgt. Michael J. Kelley, 26, of Scituate, Mass., died June 8 in Shkin, Afghanistan, when his helicopter landing zone came under enemy fire.

• Staff Sgt. Leroy E. Alexander, 27, of Dale City, Va.; and Capt. Charles D. Robinson, 29, of Haddon Heights, N.J.; died June 3 at Forward Operating Base Orgun-E in Afghanistan when their convoy vehicle was struck by an improvised explosive device.

• Spc. Kyle M. Hemauer, 21, of Manassas, Va., died May 23 in Zabul, Afghanistan, of non-combat related injuries.

• Pfc. Steven C. Tucker, 19, of Grapevine, Texas, died May 21, in Kandahar, Afghanistan, of injuries sustained near Shinkay, Afghanistan, when an improvised explosive device detonated near his vehicle.

• Cpl. Richard P. Schoener, 22, of Hayes, La., died May 8 in Alishang, Afghanistan, while conducting combat operations.

• Lance Cpl. Nicholas C. Kirven, 21, of Richmond, Va., was killed May 8 as a result of enemy action in Alishang, Afghanistan, while conducting combat operations.

• Sgt.1st Class Allen C. Johnson, 31, of Los Molinos, Calif., died April 26 in Khanaqin, Afghanistan, of injuries sustained when enemy forces using small arms fire attacked his patrol.

• Spc. Robert W. Defazio, 21, of West Babylon, N.Y., died April 24 in Kandahar, Afghanistan, of non-combat related injuries.

• Pfc. Robert C. White III, 21, of Camden, N.J., died April 23 at Kandahar Airfield, Afghanistan, of non-combat related injuries.

• Sgt. James S. Lee, 26, of Mt. Vernon, Ind., died April 6 in Ghazni, Afghanistan, when the Army CH-47 helicopter he was on crashed.

• Maj. Edward J. Murphy, 36, of South Carolina; Chief Warrant Officer David Ayala, 24, of New York; Chief Warrant Officer Clint J. Prather, 32, of Cheney, Wash.; Master Sgt. Edwin A. Matoscolon, 42, of Juana Diaz, Puerto Rico; Staff Sgt. Charles R. Sanders Jr., 29, of Charleston, Mo.; Spc. Daniel J. Freeman, 20, of Cincinnati; Spc. Chrystal G. Stout, 23, of Travelers Rest, S.C.; and Spc. Pendelton L. Sykes II, 25, of Chesapeake, Va.; died on April 6 in Ghazni, Afghanistan, when the CH-47 helicopter they were on crashed.

• Capt. David S. Connolly, 37, of Boston; Sgt. Maj. Barbaralien Banks, 41, of Harvey, La.; Staff Sgt. Romanes L. Woodard, 30, of Hertford, N.C.; Sgt. Stephen C. High, 45, of Spartanburg, S.C.; Spc. Michael K. Spivey, 21, of Fayetteville, N.C.; and Cpl. Sascha Struble, 20, of Philadelphia, N.Y.; died April 6 in Ghazni, Afghanistan, when the CH-47 helicopter they were on crashed.

• Capt. Michael T. Fiscus, 36, of Milford, Ind.; Master Sgt. Michael T. Hiester, 33, of Bluffton, Ind.; Spc. Brett M. Hershey, 23, of State College, Pa.; and Spc. Norman K. Snyder, 21, of Carlisle, Ind.; died March 26 in Kabul, Afghanistan, when a mine detonated near their military vehicle.

• Staff Sgt. Shane M. Koele, 25, of Wayne, Neb., died March 16 at Shindand Airfield, Afghanistan, from injuries sustained Mar. 15 in Shindand, Afghanistan, when a land mine exploded near his vehicle.

• Petty Officer First Class Alec Mazur, 35, of Vernon, N.Y., died March 9, in a non-combat related incident in the U.S. Central Command Area of Responsibility.

• Spc. Richard M. Crane, 25, of Independence, Mo., died Feb. 8, in Kandahar, Afghanistan, of non-combat related injuries.

• Sgt. Jeremy R. Wright, 31, of Shelbyville, Ind., died Jan. 3 in Asadabad, Afghanistan, when his military vehicle hit an improvised explosive device.

• Sgt. 1st Class Pedro A. Munoz, 47, of Aquada, Puerto Rico, died Jan. 2 in Shindand, Afghanistan, of injuries sustained Jan. 1 when his patrol encountered enemy fire.

2004

• Spc. Isaac E. Diaz, 26, of Rio Hondo, Texas, died Dec. 1 in Sharona, Afghanistan, when his military vehicle rolled over.

• Lt. Col. Michael J. McMahon, 41, of Connecticut; Chief Warrant Officer Travis W. Grogan, 31, of Virginia Beach, Va.; and Spc. Harley D. R. Miller, 21, of Spokane, Wash.; died Nov. 27 in Bamian, Afghanistan, when their contract aircraft crashed.

• Cpl. Dale E. Fracker Jr., 23, of Apple Valley, Calif.; and Cpl. Jacob R. Fleischer, 25, of St. Louis; died on November 24 in Deh Rawod, Afghanistan, when an improvised explosive device detonated near their unit.

• Sgt. Michael C. O'Neill, 22, of Mansfield, Ohio, died Nov. 21 in Landstuhl, Germany, of accidental injuries sustained on Nov. 17 at Bagram Air Field, Afghanistan, during preparations for combat operations.

• Spc. James C. Kearney III, 22, of Emerson, Iowa, died Nov. 1 in Salerno, Afghanistan, from injuries sustained in Sharan, Afghanistan, when his convoy was attacked by enemy forces.

• Cpl. Billy Gomez, 25, of Perris, Calif., died Oct.27 at Landstuhl Regional Medical Center in Landstuhl, Germany, from injuries sustained when his vehicle struck an improvised explosive device on Oct. 20 in Naka, Afghanistan.

• Airman 1st Class Jesse M. Samek, 21, of Rogers, Ark., died Oct. 21 from injuries he received when an Air Force HH-60 helicopter aircraft crashed during a medical evacuation mission in Afghanistan.

• Cpl. William M. Amundson Jr., 21, of The Woodlands, Texas, died Oct. 19 in Afghanistan when the vehicle in which he was riding rolled over.

• Staff Sgt. Brian S. Hobbs, 28, of Mesa, Ariz.; and Spc. Kyle Ka Eo Fernandez, 26, of Waipahu, Hawaii; died on Oct. 14, in Miam Do, Afghanistan, when an improvised explosive device detonated near their dismounted patrol.

• Staff Sgt. Alan L. Rogers, 49, of Kearns, Utah, died Sept. 29 in Bagram, Afghanistan, of non-combat related injuries.

• Spc. Wesley R. Wells, 21, of Libertyville, Ill., died Sept.20, in Naka, Afghanistan, when his observation post was fired on by anti-coalition militia forces.

• Staff Sgt. Robert S. Goodwin, 35, of Albany, Ga.; and Staff Sgt. Tony B. Olaes, 30, of Walhalla, S.C.; died Sept. 20, in Shkin, Afghanistan, when their patrol vehicle was ambushed by enemy forces using small arms fire and rocket-propelled grenades.

• Pfc. Daniel B. McClenney, 19, of Shelbyville, Tenn.; and Lance Cpl. Juston T. Thacker, 21, of Bluefield, W.Va.; died June 24 from hostile fire near Bari Khout, Afghanistan.

• Lance Cpl. Russell P. White, 19, of Dagsboro, Del., died June 20 due to a non-combat related incident at Camp Bulldog, Afghanistan.

• Cpl. David M. Fraise, 24, of New Orleans, died June 7 in Kandahar, Afghanistan, when an improvised explosive device hit his patrol.

• Capt. Daniel W. Eggers, 28, of Cape Coral, Fla.; Sgt. 1st Class Sgt. Robert J. Mogensen, 26, of Leesville, La.; and Pfc. Joseph A. Jeffries, 21, of Beaverton, Ore.; died May 29 in Kandahar, Afghanistan, when their vehicle hit a land mine.

• Petty Officer 1st Class Brian J. Ouellette, 37, of Needham, Mass., died on May 29.

• Chief Warrant Officer Bruce E. Price, 37, of Maryland, died May 15, in Kajaki, Afghanistan, when individuals using rocket-propelled grenades and small arms fire ambushed his unit.

• Cpl. Ronald R. Payne Jr, 23, of Lakeland, Fla., died May 8 due to hostile action in the vicinity of Tawara, Afghanistan.

• Pfc. Brandon J. Wadman, 19, of West Palm Beach, Fla., died May 5 in Afghanistan when his vehicle rolled over.

• Spc. Phillip L. Witkowski, 24, of Fredonia, N.Y., died May 1, in Homburg, Germany, from non-combat related injuries sustained on April 30, in Kandahar, Afghanistan.

• Spc. Patrick D. Tillman, 27, of Chandler, Ariz., died April 22, in Afghanistan when his patrol vehicle came under attack.

• Master Sgt. Herbert R. Claunch, 58, of Wetumpka, Ala., died April 18 in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, after collapsing on the floor in his quarters.

• Cmdr. Adrian B. Szwec, 43, of Chicago, died April 12 of a non-combat related incident.

• Command Sgt. Maj. Dennis Jallah Jr., 49, of Fayetteville, N.C., died due to a non-combat cause on March 28, in Walter Reed Army Medical Center, Washington, D.C.

• Staff Sgt. Anthony S. Lagman, 26, of Yonkers, N.Y.; and Sgt. Michael J. Esposito Jr., 22, of Brentwood, N.Y.; died on March 18, in Dehrawood, Afghanistan, when their team came under small arms fire while clearing a village.

• Spc. David E. Hall, 21, of Uniontown, Kan., died Feb. 25 in Kabul, Afghanistan, in a non-hostile accident.

• Sgt. Nicholes D. Golding, 24, of Addison, Maine, died Feb. 13 in Ghanzni, Afghanistan, as a result of an anti-tank mine explosion.

• Staff Sgt. Shawn M. Clemens, 28, of Allegany, N.Y.; Spc. Robert J. Cook, 24, of Sun Prairie, Wis.; Spc. Adam G. Kinser, 21, of Sacramento, Calif.; Sgt. 1st Class Curtis Mancini, 43, of Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; Staff Sgt. James D. Mowris, 37, of Aurora, Mo.; Spc. Justin A. Scott, 22, of Bellevue, Ky.; Sgt. Danton K. Seitsinger, 29, of Oklahoma City;

died Jan. 29, west of Ghazni, Afghanistan, when a weapons cache they were working around exploded.

• Sgt. Roy A. Wood, 47, of Alva, Fla., was killed on Jan. 9 in Kabul, Afghanistan. Wood was fatally injured when the vehicle he was traveling in near Kabul hit another vehicle.

2003

• Sgt. Theodore L. Perreault, 33, of Webster, Mass., died on Dec. 23 in Camp Bulkeley, Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, of non-combat related injuries.

• Sgt. Major Phillip R. Albert, 41, of Terryville, Conn., was killed in a helicopter crash on Nov. 23 in Afghanistan.

• Maj. Steven Plumhoff, 33, of Neshanic Station, N.J.; Staff Sgt. Thomas A. Walkup Jr., 25, of Millville, N.J.; Tech. Sgt. Howard A. Walters, 33, of Port Huron, Mich.; and Tech. Sgt. William J. Kerwood, 37, of Houston, Mo.; died in an MH-53M helicopter accident in Afghanistan on Nov. 23.

• Sgt. Jay A. Blessing, 23, of Tacoma, Wash., was killed on Nov. 14 in Asadabad, Afghanistan. Blessing died of injuries sustained from an improvised explosive device.

• Staff Sgt. Paul A. Sweeney, 32, of Lakeville, Pa., died Oct. 30 of wounds sustained during an ambush near Musa, Qalax, Afghanistan.

• Navy Petty Officer 2nd Class Darrell Jones, 22, of Wellston, Ohio, died Oct. 8 in Jebel Ali, United Arab Emirates, of non-combat related injuries.

• Lt. Col. Paul W. Kimbrough, 44, of Washington, D.C., died on Oct. 3 in Incirlik, Turkey, of a non-combat related cause.

• Pfc. Evan W. O'Neill, 19, of Haverhill, Mass., died Sept. 29 in Shkin, Afghanistan, when he was engaged by enemy forces.

• Pfc. Kristian E. Parker, 23, of Slidell, La., died on Sept. 29 at Camp AS Sayliyah, Qatar, of non-combat related injuries.

• Spc. Lisa M. Andrews, 24, of Lenexa, Kan., died on Sept. 26 near Overland Park, Kan., when she was struck and killed by a civilian vehicle.

• Spc. Chad C. Fuller, 24, of Potsdam, N.Y.; and Pfc. Adam L. Thomas, 21, of Palos Hills, Ill.; died Aug. 31, in Shkin, Afghanistan, while on patrol when their squad was attacked.

• Sgt. 1st Class Mitchell A. Lane, 34, of Lompoc, Calif., died on Aug. 29 in Afghanistan when he fell approximately 25 feet while conducting a fast rope infiltration into a known enemy cave complex.

• Petty Officer 1st Class David M. Tapper, 32, of Camden County, N.J., died of wounds received in action Aug. 20 in Afghanistan.

• Sgt. Christopher P. Geiger, 38, of Allentown, Pa., died of a non-combat related cause on July 9 in Bagram, Afghanistan.

• Spc. Kelvin E. Feliciano Gutierrez, 21, of Anasco, Puerto Rico, died June 28 in Orgun-E, Afghanistan, in a vehicle accident.

• First Class Petty Officer Thomas E. Retzer, 30, of San Diego, died of wounds received in action June 25 in Afghanistan.

• Sgt. 1st Class John E. Taylor, 31, of Wichita Falls, Texas, died May 17 in Kabul, Afghanistan, from a heart attack suffered after completing physical training.

• Pvt. Jerod R. Dennis, 19, of Oklahoma, died of wounds sustained during a firefight with enemy forces on April 25 in the vicinity of Ne Shkin, Afghanistan.

• Airman 1st Class Raymond Losano, 24, of Del Rio, Texas, died of wounds received April 25 while supporting Operation Enduring Freedom.

• Sgt. Orlando Morales, 33, of Manati, Puerto Rico, died March 29 when his mounted reconnaissance unit took hostile fire in an ambush in Geresk, Afghanistan.

• Staff Sgt. Jacob L. Frazier, 24, of St. Charles, Ill., died March 29 from wounds sustained in an ambush in Geresk, Afghanistan.

• 1st Lt. Tamara Archuleta, 23, of Los Lunas, N.M.; Staff Sgt. Jason Hicks, 25, of Jefferson, S.C.; Master Sgt. Michael Maltz, 42, of St. Petersburg, Fla.; Senior Airman Jason Plite, 21, of Lansing, Mich.; Lt. Col. John Stein, 39, of Bardolph, Ill.; and Staff Sgt. John Teal, 29, of Dallas; died in an HH-60 Pave Hawk accident in Afghanistan on March 23.

• Navy Petty Officer 3rd Class Jason Profitt, 23, of Charlestown, Ind., died March 17 of a non-combat related injury.

• Marine Corps Pfc. James R. Dillon Jr., 19, of Grove City, Pa., died March 13 in Kuwait of a non-combat related injury.

• Sgt. Steven Checo, 22, of New York; died Dec. 20 when his unit came under attack from hostile forces.

• Sgt. Ryan D. Foraker, 31, of Logan, Ohio, has been declared dead. He was reported missing from his unit in Guantanamo, Cuba, on Sept. 24.

• Sgt. 1st Class Christopher James Speer, 28, of Albuquerque, N.M., died on Aug. 7 as the result of wounds received in action in Afghanistan on July 27.

• Air Force Tech. Sgt. Sean M. Corlew, 37, of Thousand Oaks, Calif.; Air Force Staff Sgt. Anissa A. Shero, 31, of Grafton, W.Va.; and Army Sgt. 1st Class Peter P. Tycz II, 32, of Tonawanda, N.Y.; died June 12 in the crash of a U.S. Air Force MC-130H in the Paktika province of Afghanistan.

• Sgt. Gene Arden Vance Jr., 38, of Morgantown, W.Va., died May 19 when his unit came under attack from hostile forces in Afghanistan.

• Staff Sgt. Brian T. Craig, 27, of Texas; Staff Sgt. Justin. J. Galewski, 28, of Kansas; Sgt. Jamie O. Maugans, 27, of Kansas; and Sgt. 1st Class Daniel A. Romero, 30, of Colorado; died April 15 in Qandahar, Afghanistan, as the result of an explosion during explosive clearing operations.

• Chief Petty Officer Matthew J. Bourgeois, 35, of Tallahassee, Fla., was killed March 27 while conducting small unit training at a remote site near Qandahar, Afghanistan.

• Army Sgt. Bradley S. Crose, 22, of Orange Park, Fla.; Sgt. Philip J. Svitak, 31, of Joplin, Mo.; Spc. Marc A. Anderson, 30, of Brandon, Fla.; and Pfc. Matthew A. Commons, 21, of Boulder City, Nev.; Navy Petty Officer 1st Class Neil C. Roberts, 32, of Woodland, Calif.; and Air Force Tech. Sgt. John A. Chapman, 36, Waco, Texas; and Senior Airman Jason D. Cunningham, 26, Camarillo, Calif.; were killed in action in eastern Afghanistan during Operation Anaconda on March 4.

• Army Chief Warrant Officer Stanley L. Harriman, 34, of Wade, N.C., was killed in action in Afghanistan on March 2.

• Army Spc. Jason A. Disney, 21, of Fallon, Nev., died Feb. 13, shortly after sustaining injuries when a piece of heavy equipment fell on him.

• Staff Sgt. Walter F. Cohee III, 26, of Wicomico, Md.; and Staff Sgt. Dwight J. Morgan, 24, from Mendocino, Calif.; died Jan. 19 in a helicopter crash south of Bagram in northern Afghanistan.

• Capt. Matthew W. Bancroft, 29, of Shasta, Calif.; Capt. Daniel G. McCollum, 29, of Richland, S.C.; Gunnery Sgt. Stephen L. Bryson, 35, of Montgomery, Ala.; Staff Sgt. Scott N. Germosen, 37, of Queens, N.Y.; Sgt. Nathan P. Hays, 21, of Lincoln, Wash.; Lance Cpl. Bryan P. Bertrand, 23, of Coos Bay, Ore.; Sgt. Jeannette L. Winters, 25, of Du Page, Ill.; died a result of the crash of a KC-130/R aircraft in Pakistan on Jan. 9.

• Sgt. 1st Class Nathan Ross Chapman, 31, of San Antonio, died Jan. 4 as the result of enemy fire.

2001

• Master Sgt. Jefferson Donald Davis, 39, of Tennessee; Sgt. 1st Class Daniel Henry Petithory, 32, of Massachusetts; and Staff Sgt. Brian Cody Prosser, 28, of California; were killed by ordnance from a B-52 aircraft north of Kandahar, Afghanistan, on Dec. 5.

•Electronics Tech 3C Benjamin Johnson, 21, of Rochester, N.Y., died Nov. 18.

•Engineman 1C Vincent Parker, 38, of Preston, Miss., died Nov. 18.

• Machinist's Mate Fireman Apprentice Bryant L. Davis, 20, of Chicago, has been declared deceased after falling overboard from the USS Kitty Hawk on Nov. 7.

• Spc. Jonn J. Edmunds, 20, of Cheyenne, Wyo.; and Pfc. Kristofor T. Stonesifer, 28, of Missoula, Mont.; died in a helicopter crash in Pakistan on Oct. 19.

• Master Sgt. Evander Andrews, 36, of Salon, Maine, died Oct. 10.
