Egyptian Islamic Group leader jailed in US may be sent back to Egypt - paper
Al-Misriyun has learned from sources close to the decision-making circles [in Egypt] that a secret deal had been concluded some weeks ago between the Egyptian government and the US Administration under which Dr Umar Abd-al-Rahman, the spiritual leader of 'Jama'ah Islamiyah' [Islamic Group], will be sent back to Egypt to spend [what remains of] his lifetime imprisonment sentence on his land instead of the US prisons. This deal comes after reports were issued by US [human] rights organizations on the deterioration of the health condition of Dr Abd-al-Rahman, who is serving a life sentence in a US jail, on charges of involvement in planning to bomb the World Trade Centre in the USA in 1993.
