March 5, 2007 -- Insurgents Issue Video of "Suicide Attack Against Iraqi National Guard in Mosul"
Al Furqan, a "media production company" associated with the so-called "Islamic State of Iraq," issued a new video showing what it claims is a suicide attack against the barracks of Iraqi National Guard in Mosul. The two-minute video shows a red truck rushing towards a low-rise building before exploding and causing damage to the side of the building. The video is part of a series that the group of insurgents called "Hell of the Romans and the Apostates in the land of the two Rivers."
Algerian Al Qaeda Group Issues New Video Statement
A 35-minute video statement by one of the leaders of al Qaeda in the Lands of the Islamic Maghreb, formerly known as the Algerian Salafist Group for Call and Combat (GSPC), was posted on militant Islamist websites Friday. The video shows Abi Al Hassan Rashid al Bolaidi sitting against a black background with a weapon next to him, similar to the setting in videos issued by other al Qaeda leaders like Ayman al Zawahri. Al Bolaidi is seen reading his statement in which he addresses Muslims and talks about historical events and the occupation of Algeria by France, arguing that the West divided Muslim lands and accusing it of crimes against Muslims. He also urges Muslims to support "the mujhaeddin" to defend the "Muslim nation." The Algerian militant group has become increasingly active in issuing statements and videos after it joined al Qaeda in Sept. 2006 and changed its name in Jan 2007.
