U.S. Ambassador's Daughter: British Boys Suck

L O N D O N, Aug. 10, 2000 -- So much for the English gentleman, it seems — British boys “really suck” when it comes to romance, according to the teenage daughter of U.S. ambassador to Britain Phil Lader.

In a withering diatribe published in this month’s edition of society magazine Tatler and carried in the London Times’ early edition, 15-year-old Mary-Catherine derided “inadequate Z… scrawny, pale and unhealthy looking” British boys, saying they had no idea how to court a girl.

“British guys really suck,” she told the magazine. “As sexy as I once thought guys with British accents were, their lack of appealing social skills and poor dress sense soon overshadowed their attraction.

Let’s Just Be Friends, Then?

“I’m not sure it’s actually possible to become friends with a British teenage guy,” she continued. “His idea is to ask two questions and then feel entitled to stick his tongue down your throat.”

However it was not clear whether Mary-Catherine, who is currently studying at St. Paul’s Girls’ School in London, was basing her opinions on hearsay or personal experience.
