Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovich Tries to Break Pen in Apparent Frustration
He's had better weeks.
Feb. 28, 2014 -- Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovich made his first public appearance today since he was ousted as the country's leader -- apologizing to the Ukrainian people and taking out some apparent frustration out on his writing implement.
"I'd also like to address the people of Ukraine," he said in Russian. "First ..."
Yanukovich then looks down, fidgets with his pen and grimaces while he attempts to snap it in two. It's unclear whether the attempt was successful.
"First," he repeated. "I would like to apologize to you."
Yanukovich said during the news conference that he did not flee the country but left under threat to his life -- calling those who seized power "thugs."
