94-year-old grandma returns favor to police who delivered hurricane supplies

— -- A 94-year-old grandma who gained internet fame for reacting to a police visit before Hurricane Irma has returned the favor to the officers who helped her.

Betty Helmuth of Clearwater, Florida, stopped by the Clearwater Police Department Sept. 27 to thank Officer James Frederick and his colleagues for greeting her with supplies 20 days earlier.

"It was kind of unique that we took her supplies and now she's turned around to bring our officers supplies," Clearwater police spokesman Rob Shaw told ABC News today.

On Sept, 7, Helmuth answered her door for Frederick and a number of police officers who brought her groceries, water and flashlights.

Frederick told ABC News that he and his team brought the supplies to Helmuth after her granddaughter, Rachel Copeland of Texas, sent a Facebook message to police asking them to check on her grandmother.

The touching moment was captured on video by Clearwater Police and shared on the department’s Facebook page one week later.

"Oh my gosh,” Helmuth said to the officers. "Oh gosh, you're good-looking!"

On Wednesday, Helmuth and her daughter made an impromptu visit to the station with snacks including a bucket of chips and salsa with a note reading, "'Nacho' average officers! from your friend, Betty."

Helmuth also included a card that said, "Thanks again and again and again for my TV stardom and for the food!"

"She has a heart of gold and I think that we all want to adopt her as our own grandmother," Shaw said of Helmuth.
