Animal Shelter Staffer Cuddles With Abandoned Dog After Surgery
Chrissy Ireland jumped in the cage to comfort a 4-year-old hound mix, Prissy.
-- When an abandoned dog, who had just given birth to three puppies, had to be spayed, one animal shelter staffer jumped into her cage to comfort her.
Prissy, a 4-year-old hound mix, was abandoned in a junkyard along with her three puppies in Tennessee, according to Virginia Moore, the executive director of the Conway Area Humane Society in New Hampshire.
After a surgery to be spayed, Prissy -- like many dogs awaking from anesthesia -- "was having a tough time," Moore told ABC News.
"Chrissy [Ireland], our kennel supervisor, didn't want her to wake up alone," she continued, adding that Ireland decided to jump into the cage, lay down and cuddle Prissy to ease her potential fears.
Ireland, who has worked at shelter since 2009, had no idea that her coworker Debra Cameron would catch her in a now-viral Facebook video. She said she was just doing her job.
"I saw [Prissy] and she was all shaky and she didn't feel good," Ireland recalled. "It made me feel so sad for her. So I just found myself laying on the floor with her and kissing her and loving her.
"Coming out of anesthesia and you're behind walls and you're behind a gate; it’s just scary," she continued. "I know if I was getting fixed and I woke up in a kennel, I’d be scared."
Ireland said she had no idea her act of kindness would go viral, but hopes it'll help Prissy find a new home.
"I think she’d be great in any home and in any situation. I would love to see her go with kids so she can be outside playing in a yard and having a good time," she gushed.
