April Fools! Therapy Dogs Take Over Hospital's Social Media

Therapy dogs at a children's hospital are the cutest thing you'll see today.

The therapy dogs at Children's Healthcare of Atlanta have "taken over" CHOA's social media accounts, posting to Facebook, Twitter and Instagram about a day in the life of a therapy dog.

"April Fools' Day coincides with spring break for many students," said Lisa Kinsel, manager of volunteer services and animal-assisted therapy. "The kids in our hospitals, many of whom are battling chronic illness or serious injury, miss out on that rite of childhood. Though our kids can't physically leave the hospital, it's our job to get them there mentally and, ultimately, back to being kids."

"If you’ve worked with sick or injured kids, you know that taking care of kids requires more than clinical expertise. Rigorous education, a commitment to research, proven outcomes -- of course, those are important to delivering the best care. At Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta, we believe that sometimes laughter is the best medicine."

"We set out to use the holiday as a catalyst for igniting the imaginations of current and former patients," Kinsel said. "Thanks to Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and some makeshift opposable thumbs, the dogs are doing just that!"
