Beauty Products Made With Gold, Diamonds, Pearls and Caviar
A new store in New York City sells skincare products made with 24-carat gold.
-- From veggies to charcoal, there’s no shortage of ways for women to get gorgeous.
While the all-natural, DIY skin care trend is loved by many, one line takes the opposite approach, putting its skin-care products in the uber-luxe variety rather than the down-home.
Orogold, which opened its U.S. flagship store in New York City this week, puts 24-carat gold in all its products. And it doesn't stop there: Other products feature caviar, pearls and even diamond dust.
“Gold is timeless. That’s why we picked it,” said Sevan Fishman, brand manager for Orogold. “It’s always been a symbol of luxury. Cleopatra was said to sleep in a mask of gold.”
The store offers complimentary facial treatments to all its clients. I stopped into the new Madison Avenue store to see how the other half does skin care. I was treated to the cryogenic facial that featured the 24K CryogeniC Diamond Mask (retail price $1,000 per jar) with diamond dust, the 24K CryogeniC Pearl Revival Elixir with 24-carat gold and mother of pearl (retail price $600 per jar) and the 24K CryogeniC Contour Eye Firming with caffeine, green tea and Shea butter ($300 per jar).
The diamonds and pearls are crucial for both pigmentation and anti-aging, said Eliran Luzom, who works in product development for the line.
“The Chinese have used pearls to brighten the skin since ancient times," Luzom said. "And diamonds, being the roughest material on earth, are perfect for polishing.”
Though I didn’t get it as part of my complimentary facial, I did get to sample a bit of the $2,500-per-jar 24K CryogeniC Liquefying Pearl on my hand. It actually turns from a powder to a liquid as it is rubbed into the skin. One tiny bottle lasts one month, Luzom said.
