California Groom Serenades His Bride During Wedding Vows
Jared Basham put on sunglasses and lip-synched a medley of love songs.
— -- There was nothing typical about the way groom Jared Basham delivered his vows to his bride, Kyndra, during their California wedding last weekend.
Basham opened the vows by telling Kyndra, “I know that I struggle sometimes with showing my emotions…and because of that I vow to try and express how I feel to you in the most creative and ludicrous ways.”
With that, Basham, an explosive ordinance disposal technician with the U.S. Air Force, launched into a lip-synch serenade, covering everything from “You’re the One That I Want” from “Grease” to “I Will Always Love You” by Whitney Houston.
Basham said he came up with the idea because he relies on his singing to get a smile out of Kyndra, also a member of the U.S. Air Force, when they are away from each other during deployments.
“When Kendra was deployed, I would Skype her and serenade her with songs like this just to see her smile so when I got together with our amazing DJ…he knew that this is what I had to do,” Basham said today on “Good Morning America.” “We had to see that smile on the big day and it worked out well.”
Kyndra said she was not surprised that her now-husband would so something so funny, but she was surprised to see it happen during their wedding vows.
“Well, he has lots of shenanigans going on but I wasn’t expecting that but it was perfect,” she said on “GMA.” “It reflected his personality to the ‘t’ and it was everything I could have dreamed for.”
The newlyweds will spend another week together on leave in California before they return to their military assignments. Kyndra is based in Florida while Jared is stationed in Japan.
