Dad of Four Gets Total Transformation on GMA's' 'Make Over My Man' Series

Obie Watts, a husband father of four, got a total transformation on “GMA.”

— -- Obie Watts is a 37-year-old delivery driver who works 50 hours a week to take care of his family.

“My husband needs a makeover!” she said, explaining: “It's always about us, and the kids, and you know, trying to make some time for us. But he never takes the care to really care about how he looks, and how he feels.”

Watts explained why he’s not too hung up on his appearance.

“I feel, as the head of the household and as the husband, it's my duty and my job to take care of my family first,” he said. “Once they're taken care of, and only when they're taken care of, then I can go, you know, maybe get something here, get something there, for myself.”

Erica Watts said her husband needs help with his hair. Describing his dreadlocks as “a matted mess,” she said: “I really would like to see it gone, unless it -- somebody can do something with it.”

Watts disagrees.

“I do color coordinate, and I do match. I don't know what my kids are talking about, man. They -- I'm—I’m going to get them. I’m going to get them for that,” he said, laughing.

When “GMA” took a peek inside Obie Watts’ closet, we found graphic T-shirts and jeans and not a single suit.

Watts got a whole new look today on “GMA” when he entered the show’s time machine. After a 60-minute makeover from stylist Gretta Monahan, hair stylist Ted Gibson and makeup artist Carmindy, he emerged a transformed man, much to Erica’s excitement.

“Oh, my gosh, hi,” she said enthusiastically, crying tears of joy and fanning herself in complete shock.

Watts was proud of his sharp new look, boldly standing with his hands on his hips to show off his bright red new suspenders and chic sunglasses.

“Oh, thank you!” Erica said, wrapping her arms around his neck. “I’ve never seen him like this. He’s never not had facial hair. I love it, yay!”

As Watts looked into the mirror at his brand new appearance, he described what he saw in his new reflection.

“Probably the next president,” he said with a smile.

Here are tips for how other men can achieve their own tremendous transformation at home:

BONUS STYLE TIPS

Carmindy’s Tips

  • Men who have large pores or shiny skin can use a skin perfector like my CarmaBlur. It is a clear, wax-like balm which men can use to minimize the look of pores and eliminate shine without adding any "makeup" to the skin because it is clear. Just rub it over problem areas and they are gone.
  • Men tend to never moisturize enough and dryness during the winter can create chapped, rough lips. Keep a lip balm that contains natural oils in it on your nightstand, in your car, drawer in your office, everywhere so you can swipe it on daily wherever you are for smooth, kissable lips.
  • Ted Gibson’s Tips

  • Dreadlocks are beautiful and are a really powerful look, however they require a lot of maintenance. If you can’t keep up with the amount of care dreadlocks require they can begin to look messy. Be sure that you are ready for the commitment before you decide to wear this hairstyle.
  • Don’t be afraid of product! I find that many men are wary of hair product and don’t know what to use. Pomades or oils that promote shine are great for any hair type and can really pull your look together!
  • Many African-American men have problems with razor bumps when shaving. Be sure to use a fresh, clean blade each time you shave to avoid this!
  • Gretta Monahan’s Tips

  • Guys, shoes matter for you too! Classic style shoes in a non-traditional color make every look cool and current!
  • The more casual silk tie is a huge trend right now, and it's a more comfortable, contemporary way to rock a tie.
  • Matchy-matchy suits are no more! Mix and match textures and pieces. It's the best because it gives you flexibility in sizes and also gives you a ton of options to wear your pieces in different ways! Don't be afraid to mix different fabrics to customize your suiting look for any dressy or office occasion and be totally appropriate.
