'GMA' Beauty Experts Give New Mom 1-Hour Makeover at Ohio State Fair

Food and rides can be had at the Ohio State Fair. But how about a makeover?

— -- Food, rides and a good time can all be found at the Ohio State Fair. But how about a makeover?

After partaking in some of the fair’s goodies last week, the trio canvassed the fairgrounds in search of a candidate. Within an hour, they spotted 30-year-old Colby Murphy, an occupational therapist, wife and new mother to a 10-month-old baby girl, Camden.

They handed the couple’s baby to Murphy’s husband and then whisked her off for a rapid makeover.

For Murphy, of Columbus, news that she’d been rewarded with a makeover was music to her ears.

“We tried to have a baby for years and years so, my focus was kind of on that. And then, we had her and now my focus is on her. So, I'm definitely ready to focus on me a little bit,” she said, laughing through tears.

Within minutes of escorting her to the Almay beauty bus, the team came up with a plan to help Murphy embrace change.

Describing a hair change as “liberating,” Gibson focused on giving Murphy a shorter 'do’ in a blonder hue, while Monahan dressed her in summer’s hottest look: the romper.

“What I love about the romper trend, is you can wear it with high heels, flats, skimmers … This is a very versatile trend that a lot of women can wear,” Monahan said.

Williams gave Murphy as all-American beauty look, telling her, “don't be afraid of color, and nice natural lip stain, beautiful, gorgeous shimmery eye shadow, with that clean kind of classic, happy look.”

Before her makeover, Murphy would typically wear T-shirts and leggings, and before she donned the romper, Murphy said she had not worn shorts in at least three years.

An hour after the makeover began, Murphy saw herself in the mirror. The sight made her emotional.

“I came to the fair to get French fries and I'm coming away with an amazing makeover,” she said.

Here are some extra tips from the “GMA” beauty panel:

Gretta Monahan’s extra tips

  • Rompers are a perfect way for new moms to ease out of maternity clothes and get back into feel-good clothes. One of the best things you can do as a new mom is, in the comfort of your own home, try on some of the old pieces you feel most afraid to wear again. You may be surprised at how great you look and it’s a great bit of post-baby therapy.
  • New moms tend to wear clothing items that do not have defined waistlines. It feels great to get back into something that is fitted of or cinched at the waist and it instantly gives you back your pre-baby figure no matter what stage you’re at. This silhouette gives a much more uplifted feeling versus wearing big baggy and stretch clothes.
  • Go with a bold accessory. Necklaces and bangles are one-size-fits-all and will make anything look good, no matter what size. Pair gold accessories with anything from a T-shirt and jeans to a maxi or romper and instantly dress up your look.
  • As a new mom, it might feel like you’ll never fit into your old pointy-toe heels or stilettos again, and that’s OK. You may have to say goodbye to your old shoes, but don’t think that means you can’t wear sexy shoes. It’s just time to evolve your style choices. Go for a cage-style shoe. They look sexy and strappy with almost as much support as a bootie. Pick a pair with a reinforced sole and a thicker heel, if not a wedge. Block heels are really in and look great even with height.

  • Daytime Look
  • Make your eyes pop even when doing a neutral look by using eye shadow shades that enhance your unique eye color. For example, use pink shadow on green eyes to bring out the eye color.
  • For a softer look during the day, skip the black eyeliner and use a dark eyeshadow shade instead.

    Night Look

  • To add extra drama to your smoky eye, use both pencil and liquid eyeliners. Layer liquid eyeliner on top of pencil eyeliner to really define the lash line.
  • To avoid looking overdone when doing a smoky eye, use a nude lip color.
  • When you have naturally wavy, coarse hair it’s important to use the right product for ultimate shine and finish. A hair oil is a must have for wavy and coarse hair!
  • A woman should change her hair color at least two times a year. Spring and summer are the times for lighter hair!
  • Side-swept bangs are on-trend for any woman, regardless of age! They are flirty, cool and very modern.
