Heaven Is 634 Corgis Having a Party on the Beach

The ninth-annual Corgi Beach Day was a huge success on April 11.

— -- Dog lovers in Southern California officially died and went to heaven.

Behold the epic ninth-annual Corgi Beach Day, where Corgis of all shapes and sizes head out with their owners to Huntington Beach, California, for a little (or a lot!) fun in the sun, sand and surf.

The gathering this past Saturday was the event’s biggest turnout yet, attracting a whopping 634 furry friends to the huge beach paw-ty.

“It's official. ... 634 corgi signed/checked in at today's So Cal Corgi Beach Day!!!,” the group wrote on their Facebook page. “Thank you to all that attended and made this day SO MUCH FUN!!!”

That’s a giant leap from the only 12 attendees they had in October 2012 when this grassroots idea, led by Kelly and Dan McLemore, first began.

“It was so much fun we decided to do it again and the next one we had 75 corgis show up,” Kelly, of Lakewood, California, told ABC News. “It just sort of blew up from there, each time we held one the numbers multiplied.”

The Corgi-lovers meet four times a year, once every season, for the full-fledged dog fest.

“Every time we hold one it's bigger and better than we even expected!,” she said. “We even have people coming in from across the US and all over Canada. We always wonder how big it can really get.”

The McLemores, along with their beloved Corgi, Mr. Pickles, arranged some fun activities for all their new fur-iends at the event.

“We had a ‘Corgis of Instagram Meet & Greet,’ where all the most followed Corgis of Instagram held court for photo ops and pettings,” said Kelly. “We roped off an area and gave each one their own special sign and space to meet their fans. It was a big hit! We also held a costume contest and a limbo contest, and a massive group photo.”

Needless to say, the cute Corgis and their owners cannot wait to dive into the summer 2015 So Cal Corgi Beach Day on July 11.
