New Jersey Woman Gives Birth While Stuck in Beach Traffic

— -- A newly-released 911 call shows the panic in a father’s voice when he realized his wife was going into labor as the couple was stuck in traffic.

Trevor and Rosemarie Abbud were enjoying a day at the beach in New Jersey on Saturday with their 17-month-old son when Rosemarie’s water broke unexpectedly.

“I went into labor a week early,” she told ABC News. “I was actually due the 29th.”

The couple tried to make it to the hospital but got stuck in a traffic jam in Seabright, New Jersey.

“Do you have a cop coming because she’s having the baby,” Trevor can be heard telling the 911 dispatcher. “Dear God. I need help. I need help.”

Trevor says his wife’s delivery moved very rapidly, causing him to have to think fast.

“It went from like this is it, you know, to I’m going to have to deliver this baby,” he said. “I blasted the horn to get people’s attention.”

Luckily for the Abbuds, a car behind them was carrying an EMT, Lauren Kammerer.

“Her head and her shoulder were already out by the time we got there,” the nurse told ABC News.

"Her head and her shoulders were already out by the time that we got there, so it was literally like, 'Okay, you ready to push?', and she did," Kammerer told WABC-TV.

Rosemarie delivered a healthy baby, a daughter they named Bella Rose Abbud, in the front seat of the family’s car. Bella weighed in at a healthy 7 pounds, 13 oz, and both she and her mom are doing fine.

“It couldn’t have worked out any better,” Trevor said, while his wife added she “would prefer to be in the hospital.”
