The New Makeup Trend Behind Uma Thurman's Buzzy Look
The actress made headlines on the red carpet.
-- Actress Uma Thurman's new look on the red carpet this week in New York City prompted some to speculate the star had undergone plastic surgery.
Thurman, 44, seemed to have tauter skin around her forehead and cheekbones, as well as what appeared to be little makeup, save for bright red lipstick on her mouth.
“We rarely see celebrities step out without a full face of makeup, including false eyelashes and eyeliner,” said Andrea Lavinthal, People magazine's style and beauty director. “So to see somebody do this, it’s very unexpected.”
When Thurman’s fellow actress, Renee Zellweger, appeared with a different look on a red carpet last year, the “Bridget Jones's Diary” actress claimed it was not surgery but the result of a healthier lifestyle.
Now, Thurman’s makeup artist has said the “Pulp Fiction” star’s surprising look also is not the result of plastic surgery but simply a makeup trend he called “effortless Parisienne chic.”
“I wanted to give Uma a statement lip balanced by a more feathered brow,” makeup artist Troy Surratt told People. “As a makeup artist, I’ve grown a bit tired of all of the lash-y looks and fake eyelashes that we’ve been seeing on the red carpet for some time now.”
“The face is sectioned into three equal parts, lending a visual balance and allowing the mouth to be the star of the face,” Surratt said.
On Thurman’s lips, Surratt told the magazine he used a combination of two of his own lip shades, Surratt Automatique Lip Crayon in Mégalomane and Surratt Lipslique in Pecadille.
“I prepped Uma’s skin by massaging with Creme de la Mer -- the Concentrate,” Surratt told People. “I applied a glowing foundation using a Beauty Blender for a super-natural look. When the makeup was finished, we misted her face with Tatcha’s Luminous Dewy Skin Mist for added radiance.”
