Man Takes Divine Selfie, Has 'Religious Experience'

Lee Thompson snapped a selfie. It was heavenly.

June 2, 2014 -- If you thought your last Instagram was impressive, you have to see the latest snapshots from adventure-seeking photographer Lee Thompson.

Ostensibly touring Brazil to cover the upcoming World Cup in Rio De Janeiro, Thompson and a colleague sought special permission from Brazilian authorities to climb to the top of the famed Christ the Redeemer statue "and take some seriously vertigo-inducing photographs."

According to Thompson, a GoPro camera and two high-wire workmen made the stunning selfie possible.

In his account of the experience on TheFlashPack.co.uk, Thompson said, "As I popped my head out of the hole in Jesus' crown, I was in total and utter awe as my eyes met with a vast panorama that quite literally took my breath away. Talk about a religious experience! I've never been afraid of heights or tight spaces, but experiencing acrophobia, claustrophobia and profound awe at the same time was something truly remarkable."

No filter, indeed.
