Military Veteran Moms Get Glam Makeovers on 'GMA'

Sisters Rachel and Charity Witmer each served in the U.S. Army for eight years.

— -- Rachel and Charity Witmer -- sisters who each served in the U.S. Army for eight years -- received the makeover of their dreams today on “Good Morning America.”

The sisters, born and raised in Wisconsin, first made headlines more than a decade ago when they were both deployed to Iraq, along with a third sister, Michelle Witmer, Charity’s twin.

Now, 11 years later, Rachel Witmer, of Milwaukee, and Charity Witmer, of Dallas, are both mothers of three. Charity gave her eldest daughter the middle name of Michelle in honor of her fallen twin.

The two sisters have remained a tight-knit unit and say that today, as busy moms, they are in need of fashion and beauty help.

“GMA,” on behalf of sponsor Almay, brought in a beauty dream team to help the military veterans update their looks.

“Since Almay ‘Simply American’ celebrates the true spirit of American beauty, we wanted to give these all-American girls a really classic, fresh-faced look,” said makeup artist Rebecca Perkins.

On Charity Witmer, Perkins used Almay Smart Shade and Almay Intense i-Color Evening Smoky for Hazel Eyes to give her a fresh-faced look. Perkins says she paired Witmer’s smoky eye makeup with a nude lip to balance the look and keep the focus on her eyes.

On Rachel Witmer, Perkins took the opposite approach, pairing a neutral eye palette with Almay Smart Shade Butter Kiss Lipstick in Red-Light for an all-American look.

"It’s just amazing that out of everything that happened, that we could come together to do something happy and fun and amazing," Rachel said of her makeover.

Celebrity hair stylist Ted Gibson handled the women's hair makeover, while fashion expert Gretta Monahan, the stylist for the upcoming TLC series "Brides Gone Styled" took charge of their clothing.

“Orange is the new red for spring,” Monahan said of Rachel’s orange dress.

Monahan described Charity's green maxi-jumpsuit as a "one-piece wonder."

"You look great," Monahan said. "The wide legs make it easy for mom, with a high neck but show the shoulders because they smolder."

Gibson said the sisters' new hairdos changed everything when it came to their looks.

“Rose gold is the hottest color that we’re doing at my New York salon,” Gibson said of Rachel’s new color.

“With Charity, we completely changed the hair cut. We completely changed the hair color,” Gibson said.

Charity called her makeover "an amazing experience."

"It’s been a whirlwind but they are the nicest, most fabulous people," Charity said of the makeover team.

Gibson and Monahan also had some extra fashion and hair tips to share.

Ted Gibson's Hair Tips

1. Fine hair that is too long can look drab and can actually age you. Shorter lengths are great for fine hair because they can give the illusion of more volume.

2. Color is a great way to spice up your look. Red is sexy and bold and is a great color for brunettes to try.

3. Everyday candy hair colors are becoming more and more popular, so give them a try. Rose gold is one of the hottest fun colors of the moment.

4. The wavy lob is still all the rage. It screams fashion and fun, and is perfect for the summer. To achieve the look Rachel Witmer had on your own at home, simply take a one-inch section of hair and wrap it around the base of your curling iron for five seconds, leaving the ends out. Alternate the direction of your curling iron between sections and finish by spraying with holding spray to hold it all in place.

Gretta Monahan's Style Tips

1. Bright green is a popular color for spring and summer.

2. The maxi romper will be a big trend because the wide-leg style looks effortless, yet dressed up.

3. Showcase your shoulders. Like the Witmer sisters, mothers can feel sexy by showing a little shoulder. Keeping the neckline high can keep it appropriate for events with the kids.

4. Citrus Chic orange is the new red. The color casts a glow that illuminates the wearer.

5. The mock crop dress is sexy yet doesn’t give a midriff peek so wearers can be comfortable and summer-sexy without wondering about showing too much skin.
