'People of Penn Station' Instagram Pokes Fun at Being a Commuter

— -- Two New York women are poking fun at the drag of being a commuter in the tri-state area with their Instagram account "People of Penn Station."

Kimberly and Jackie, who are friends from New York, told ABC News they decided to create the humorous account after realizing how "relatable" the experience of commuting was for everyone.

"It's really just a fun project and we are commuters ourselves, so we felt like somebody had to document it," said Kimberly, one of the administrators of the account. "We are seeing where it takes us and it's definitely light-hearted, for sure."

Kimberly and Jackie, both 24, said they launched "People of Penn Station" in August 2013. They also accept photos from fellow commuters who have captured the daily chronicles of traveling to work. Users have submitted photos from the subway, Long Island Railroad, New Jersey Transit and Penn Station.

In just one year, the account spiked from under 20,000 followers to 35,000, they said.

"It took off," Kimberly said. "People started tagging friends, tagging the account..it kind of became this groundswell of content and people were sending us stuff all the time."

The page will never feature derogatory images or messages that would be offensive to a commuter, Kimberly and Jackie said.

"We try very hard not to post anything that is really explicit or embarrassing to someone," Jackie said. "We definitely have some limits...we don't want to be hurtful."

Kimberly and Jackie said they intend on continuing the account to please their "super engaged" following.

"They get excited when we post their stuff," Jackie said. "It's nice that they're so entertained by it."
