The Potato Salad Kickstarter That Raised Over $37,000
One man has raised over $37,000 to make a humble potato salad.
-- If there was ever any doubt that Americans love potato salad, Zack Brown has once and for all proven the popularity of this classic summer side.
Since setting a modest $10 fundraising goal on Kickstarter on July 3 to make himself some potato salad, he has seen a more than 3,700 percent return on his plea to $37,000 by Tuesday morning. Brown quickly had to set some stretch goals, like promising a potato salad party for those who donate and even creating merchandise with the food on it and a potato salad recipe book.
“I’m so overwhelmed by the awesome power of the Internet,” Brown told ABC News. “I am honored to be in the position I'm in.”
When asked why he started the Kickstarter in the first place, Brown joked that he, “really wanted to make potato salad, but am not at a point in my life where I could assume that level of risk.”
Brown doesn’t yet know what recipes he will use for the potato salad, but those who donate just $5 can contribute to the recipe.
“I can't wait to see what people have in mind,” Brown said. “All these wonderful people are making my dream of spreading joy and humor in the world come true. We're going to throw a massive party in Columbus [Ohio] and the whole Internet is invited. We are going to do right by the Internet.”
Brown plans to throw his potato salad party over Labor Day weekend. Save the date.
