3 Former 'Project Runway' Contestants Compete to Make a Dress for Robin Roberts
The winner was chosen by judges Heidi Klum, Nina Garcia and Zac Posen.
-- The competition was fierce as three former "Project Runway" contestants competed on “Good Morning America” to create a gorgeous day-to-night look for Robin Roberts, with the winner being chosen by the show’s prestigious judges Heidi Klum, Nina Garcia and Zac Posen.
Designers Dom Streater, Christopher Palu and Michael Costello all crafted very different ensembles using fabrics from Mood for the "GMA" Runway Rumble Challenge, using every second of their two-hour time limit to impress not only Roberts, but the critical fashion moguls themselves.
Streater’s Japanese-Inspired Dress
“I decided to do something very Japanese-inspired,” she explained of her black-and-white dress. “I saw the shibori fabric and thought it’d be really cool to be inspired by Japanese waters and the mountains and things like that. So I did something really flowy, very elegant, and it’s day-to-night, so something that could work during the daytime and look confident, but at night she looks very elegant and chic."
Palu’s Sexy Jewel-Toned Dress
“My inspiration was effortless sexiness that you bring to a jewel tone during the day and you can also wear it at night,” he said. “You can undo the sleeve and just have another sleeve.”
Costello’s Effortless Hamptons Dress:
“I wanted to take you to the Hamptons,” said Costello. “It’s very easy to wear. It’s very effortless. We paired it with a really beautiful nude shoe.”
“The problem is, Robin, that you look good in everything,” Michael Strahan joked of the tough competition.
After reviewing the dazzling looks however, the judges were unanimous in their winning decision.
“We’re going to give it to Michael,” Klum said, hopping out of her chair to hand Costello a trophy. “That’s amazing. I can’t believe you did this in two hours. It takes longer to do my hair and makeup.”
Season 15 of "Project Runway" premieres in September on Lifetime.
