Sky-High Sand Castle Looking Up at World Record

— -- American artist Rusty Croft has built what might be the world’s tallest sand castle, pending a Guinness World Records review.

Standing at 39 feet tall in the Brazilian city of Niteroi, the sandcastle took nearly a week to build using 20 truckloads of sand.

Croft’s sandcastle, which is built from material that can withstand winds and rain, will be destroyed after it’s measured by Guinness.

Croft, who builds sandcastles around the world, constructed the castle with the support of two U.S. companies looking to promote their brands in Brazil.

Croft’s career began in 1997 when he was part of a team that created the record-setting Lost City of Atlantis sand sculpture.

He is now a co-owner of California-based Sand Guys, which is hired to create sand sculptures for companies like Yahoo!, Google, Facebook and other companies.

The record for the tallest sandcastle stands at 37 feet and 10 inches, according to Guinness.

It was constructed by Ed Jarrett at Winding Trails Recreation Area in Farmington, Connecticut, May 20, 2011.

Guinness World Records said the adjudicator is still verifying evidence.
