'Smart' Umbrellas You Can't Lose
Traceable umbrellas are making their way to consumers.
-- Like sunglasses, umbrellas are one thing people just can’t seem to hold onto. So one company has come up with an umbrella that’s not only traceable, but advertised as strong enough to withstand Mother Nature when she’s at her worst.
Umbrella maker Blunt has collaborated with Tile to create a tech-savvy product that allows people to immediately locate their misplaced umbrella. It’s billed as the “world’s first traceable umbrella.”
How it works: Tile, the tiny Bluetooth device that lies beneath the Blunt’s canopy, is connected to a smartphone app. If you lose your umbrella, the app will pinpoint its location, showing you on a map exactly where it was left behind.
It’s available for pre-order in two different versions.
If you're looking for portable, The Blunt Metro X_S + Tile is conveniently small, yet advertised as being able to tolerate winds exceeding 50 mph, $69.
For more protection, opt for The Blunt Classic + Tile, which the company says is capable of withstanding winds over 70 mph, $99.
Both models are completely traceable through Tile’s iOS app, according to the company, and will be available nationwide online at www.bluntumbrellas.com.
