May 23, 2014 -- Hundreds of students dressed in duct tape, fashioning outfits to reflect their favorite movie characters and animals -– and helping to set a new record.
The 3M Duct Tape Costume Ball on Thursday was organized by Destination Imagination, a non-profit, volunteer-led educational group for children. Destination Imagination’s Global Finals is taking place this week in Knoxville, Tenn.
The students collected inside the Thompson-Boling Arena, the home of the University of Tennessee’s basketball teams. Children dressed as “Frozen” characters and video game icons, even a few Rubik’s cubes, with lots and lots of tape becoming hats and shirts and pants.
A representative from Guinness World Records was also on hand, acknowledging the 752 participants as the largest gathering of people wearing duct tape.
