Woman Gets Surprise Marriage Proposal Live in 'GMA' Audience
“I was shocked. I did not expect that at all,” said the bride-to-be.
-- One shocked bride-to-be got the surprise of a lifetime during her first trip to New York City.
When Ben Quiles found out singer John Legend would be performing on “Good Morning America” today, he did everything in his power to get tickets to pop the question to his now-fiancée, Adrienne Roberts, live in the “GMA” studio audience.
“It’s been about two months,” he told ABC News of how long he’s been planning the epic proposal. “We’ve always wanted to do New York in the Christmastime and we just happened to have a trip booked here. When my now-fiancée found out that John Legend was going to be on the show, I did everything I could to get audience tickets. I thought, ‘Why not? Let’s make this the most memorable experience ever.’”
Quiles, 37, certainly accomplished that and more, getting an excited “yes” from Roberts, whom he met while working at State Farm in Olympia, Washington, where the couple lives.
“I was shocked. I did not expect that at all,” Roberts, 34, said of her momentous morning. “I thought we were coming there to see John Legend and then I was shocked when Michael Strahan came over to talk to us. My fiancé said we should dress up because, ‘Maybe we can get in the front row if we dress up,’ and I was like, ‘Oh OK.’ I’m usually not one to be surprised easily but this was a complete surprise.”
This is the second marriage for both Quiles, an Army veteran, and Roberts, who share two children together, and each have a child from their previous relationships.
They do not have a wedding date set yet. “We’ve talked about getting married on the beach in Maui,” said Roberts. “We went there earlier this year and we had talked about it then. We’re a blended family, we have four kids total, so we’ll plan something where all the kids can be there.”
As for celebrating this weekend, they’re looking forward to a big weekend in the Big Apple.
“We want to do the Empire State Building,” said Quiles. “Then I want her to see Times Square at night.”
“GMA” is also helping the lovebirds celebrate with dinner on us at Chef Wolfgang Puck’s new restaurant CUT, located at the Four Seasons Hotel downtown.
