Woman Wins Nearly $1M on 'Wheel of Fortune' Slot Machine
"I heard all the people around me cheering as well, so it was just like a blur."
-- A New York woman has a lot to be thankful for after hitting a major jackpot of nearly $1 million on a "Wheel of Fortune" slot machine.
Linda H. of Thornwood, New York, won $961,411.81 at Empire City Casino at Yonkers Raceway on Nov. 20 when she and her husband Eddie made an impromptu stop to gamble.
Linda hit the big-time prize on one of the 110 "Wheel of Fortune" slots at the casino, reported ABC-owned station WABC in New York.
"I heard all the people around me cheering as well, so it was just like a blur," Linda told the station. "It was such a shock."
Linda’s jackpot is the second highest win at Empire City. The biggest win was nearly $1.5 million on another “Wheel of Fortune” machine.
Linda's husband Eddie was in another area of the casino when his wife broke the bank.
"She was shaking and she had security around her and I said, 'What happened, were you robbed?' and she says, 'No, I won $1 million,' and I said, 'What?'" Eddie told WABC. "She says, 'I won $1 million,' and I said, 'Oh my God, I can't believe it.'"
Linda plans on using the money to help her grown children with expenses.
She will not quit her job but plans on retiring in three years, she said.
