New York City Steakhouse Offers $45K Thanksgiving Engagement

Thanksgiving dinner could come with an engagement ring and shopping spree.

— -- A New York City steakhouse is offering an interesting proposal for anyone willing to fork over big bucks for their Thanksgiving dinner.

The Old Homestead Steakhouse in New York’s Meatpacking District is offering a $45,000 Thanksgiving dinner package that includes a diamond engagement ring.

“Thanksgiving weekend kicks off the proposal season that runs until Valentine’s Day,” Marc Sherry, owner of the 147-year-old restaurant, told ABC News today. “Anyone can get engaged on Valentine’s Day, but not many can do it with turkey and stuffing.”

Sherry, who owns the restaurant with his family, says three parties purchased the restaurant’s $35,000 feast last Thanksgiving so he decided to up the ante this year with the inclusion of a 2-carat emerald-cut diamond ring, along with other perks.

The $45,000 Thanksgiving meal for eight will be seven courses of the usual Thanksgiving fare – turkey, mashed and sweet potatoes, cranberries, gravy – but infused with touches like a $1,600 per ounce kind of caviar and a $4,900 per bottle bourbon.

Sherry says he has two “serious inquiries” already hoping to book a package for next week. A normal Thanksgiving dinner at the Old Homestead will cost you $65 and a seat in the main restaurant.

Buying the $45,000 package, which also comes with a videographer to record the proposal, will get you a seat anywhere, according to Sherry.

“When you spend $45,000, you can have it wherever you want,” he said. “You’re the boss at $45,000, but we do have a private room ready for the party.”
