Prince William Greeted by David Beckham
July 9, 2011 -- Soccer star David Beckham welcomed Prince William and Catherine to the Golden State during a reception at British Consul General Dame Barbara Hay's residence in Los Angeles Friday.
Beckham was joined by 200 guests at the Hancock park residence.
Chief executive of Disney Bob Iger and Lord Freddie Windsor who was accompanied by his wife actress Sophie Winkleman were among the notable guests included.
Beckham who arrived alone was not on the official guest list for the reception but royal aides say he wanted to welcome the couple to Los Angeles and deliver several autographed LA Galaxy shirts for Prince William to auction off for one of his charities, according to the Daily Mail.
Beckham, who left his pregnant wife Victoria at home, spoke to the prince about anticipating the arrival of their baby girl within the next week. The Beckhams attended the royal couple's wedding in April.
"Victoria really wanted to come but she is just so tired at the moment. She sent you both lots of love," the soccer star told the Prince, the Mail reported.
Prince William replied by returning the love and wishing the couple good luck and then went on to say how much he enjoyed his trip to Canada.
"It's been an amazing few days," he said according to the Mail. "We've been so lucky with all the incredible places we've been able to see and we've met so many fascinating people."
Kate delightfully mingled with guests and flaunted a silk, emerald green Diane von Furstenberg belted dress with her reportedly favorite beige platform stilettos.
Prince William chatted with Stephen Fry, who is currently filming in Los Angeles. The two exchanged compliments about each other's wardrobe.
The Royals are expected to play in a charity polo match today at the Santa Barbara Polo Club.
Proceeds will go to the American Friends of the Foundation of Prince William and Prince Harry. The duchess will also give out prizes during the event.
A red carpet event at LA's Belasco Theatre awaits the Royal couple later tonight.
A black-tie British Academy of Film and Television Arts dinner will be held where Prince William is scheduled to give a speech at the gala.
Nicole Kidman, Jennifer Lopez, Tom Hanks, and Jack Black are among the VIPs on the guest list, E!Online reported.
