Hillary Clinton Hopes Country is Ready for Female President
CAZENOVIA, N.Y., Aug. 31, 2006 -- Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton campaigned for re-election today in the Finger Lakes region of upstate New York, diving into meet-and-greets with local residents while dodging a steady stream of questions about her 2008 presidential intentions.
"Nightline" will air Cynthia McFadden's "Day in the Life" interview with Sen. Clinton Thursday, Sept. 7 at 11:35 p.m. ET
While touring the site for the new Women's Hall of Fame in Seneca Falls, the Democratic senator told Nightline's Cynthia McFadden she hopes the country is ready for a female President. "It just depends on, you know, when and if that happens. Stay tuned."
Through five events in four cities, Clinton refused to answer reporters' questions about her presidential ambitions, insisting that the only election she's thought about is this one.
The day, intended to highlight the senator's popularity with rural voters, culminated with a barbeque at a working family farm where she was was joined by her husband Bill. The former first couple will spend the day tomorrow at the State Fair outside Syracuse, a New York political rite of passage they've participated in since she first campaigned for the Senate in 1999.
