Meet the students reporting from Gainesville, Florida

Jan. 15, 2009— -- Robert Bradfield knew at an early age that television news was his passion. Growing up on Florida's space coast provided him the unique opportunity to watch every shuttle launch from his driveway and witness firsthand how hurricanes can change entire communities. This led to his enrolling at the University of Florida, where he is majoring in telecommunications-news. Bradfield began interning at the local ABC affiliate in Gainesville, Fla., WCJB, as a freshman in 2005. He most recently served as a producer and student reporter for the nightly broadcast. His work at the station has been honored by the Florida Associated Press. Bradfield currently co-anchors weeknights for the on-campus television station, WUFT-TV, and also reported and anchored for one of the on-campus radio stations,WUFT-FM. In his spare time, he enjoys watching the news, of course, and cheering on the Florida Gators and the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Marilia Brocchetto is now a senior at the University of Florida finishing up her degree in telecommunications with emphasis in news. But her career path wasn't always clear. She started out as a business major and quickly changed her mind after taking Financial Accounting. A Brazilian citizen and a speaker of four languages, Brocchetto hopes to someday become a foreign correspondent. ABC News on Campus has been a blessing in her life and she hopes all she learns from the program will help her tailor her abilities and make her a better journalist. Christiane Amanpour remains one of her major influences and role models.

When he's not busy in the newsroom, Patrick enjoys spending time with friends and family, and watching sports.

Dominick Tao participated in the first semester of the ABC News On Campus program. He is a senior journalism and political science major at the University of Florida who can't go a day without embarking on some kind of little adventure. He enjoys chatting with interesting strangers, and taking the scenic route whenever time allows. He's reported the gritty metro beat for the Miami Herald, and covered business for the St. Petersburg Times. He was the editor in chief of the Alligator, the nation's largest student-run newspaper. He's a journalist because the job lets him be a modern-day explorer: discovering things about the world, and then sharing the news.
