Meet the Students from Syracuse

Jan. 15, 2009— -- Matt Gelb is a senior majoring in newspaper journalism and history at Syracuse University. He spent the summer as a sports reporter for The Philadelphia Inquirer. Before that, he served as the sports editor at The Daily Orange all of last school year, and has also interned at the Cape Cod Times. Last April, he was named by UWIRE as one of the top 100 student journalists in the country. Matt is originally from Chalfont, Pa., a suburb of Philadelphia.

Sabina Kuriakose is a senior at Syracuse University, dual majoring in broadcast journalism and international relations. This past summer she interned with the National Emmy award-winning investigative unit at NBC10 in Philadelphia. She was also a reporting intern at WBNG in Binghamton, N.Y. last spring. Sabina has reported for CONNECT, a local public affairs program produced out of Syracuse University. She is interested in reporting for multimedia platforms. Sabina grew up in Bensalem, Pa., a suburb of Philadelphia.

Meghan Lisson is a senior pursuing a dual major in broadcast journalism and political science at Syracuse University. She spent last summer in midtown Manhattan, interning with the leader in nonfiction television, Discovery Communications. Meghan has also worked as a newsroom assistant and morning show intern at WSYR in Syracuse. For the past few years, she has served as an anchor and executive producer at SU's student-run station, CitrusTV. Taking a semester abroad in London last spring, Meghan produced and hosted a travel-guide show and is very interested in travel journalism. She is from the small lakeside town of Skaneateles, about 40 minutes outside Syracuse.

Jason Tarr is a senior triple major in broadcast journalism, international relations and Spanish at Syracuse University. Tarr serves as a news anchor and producer at CitrusTV, the oldest student-run television station in the United States. He started working for CitrusTV in 2005 as a graphics operator before becoming a reporter and eventually working his way up to an executive producer/anchor position. In his current position, he has anchored a news broadcast every week for the past two years. In 2007, Jason founded "CitrusTV Noticias en Español," a Spanish-language news broadcast. The weekly show has received media attention as one of only a handful of student-run Spanish television news broadcasts in the country. He serves as the show's executive producer and director.

Torie Wells is a junior at Syracuse University, majoring in broadcast journalism and minoring in political science. She is from Albany, N.Y., where she works as a fill-in reporter. Torie is an executive producer and anchor for CitrusTV News, the oldest student-run television station in the United States. She works for the Orange Television Network, where she produces and hosts a weekly show made for the Web about student groups and events on campus. In her spare time she reports for the Open Student Television Network, a national platform for student packages. Torie also just started working with ESPNU Campus Connection.
