2020 Northern Mariana Islands caucuses results
ABC News projects Sen. Bernie Sanders as the winner.
Based upon 100% of the results reported by the Northern Mariana Islands Democratic Party on Saturday, ABC News projects Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., as the winner of the territory's Democratic caucus.
The Vermont senator won over former Vice President Joe Biden, 63-36%. Sanders won four pledged delegates and Biden won two.
Precinct doors opened at 5 p.m. and the caucuses began at 6 p.m. local time.
The Republican convention will take place on Sunday, where nine Republican delegates are up for grabs.
Territory significance
In 2016, former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton won the Democratic caucus with 54% percent, defeating Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders' 34.4%.
On the Republican side, then-candidate President Donald Trump won the territory with 72.8%, defeating second-place challenger Texas Sen. Ted Cruz, who had 24%.
