Thursday in politics: Biden at NAACP, Cheney raises cash for Romney, and more

— -- Vice President Joe Biden will speak at the NAACP convention in Houston on Thursday. He is certain to get a warmer reception when he defends President Barack Obama's record than Mitt Romney did Wednesday when he attacked it.

Obama is not speaking at the convention this year. He spoke there during the 2008 campaign and again in 2009, and first lady Michelle Obama spoke in 2010. The president has no public events on his schedule Thursday.

Dick Cheney will host a fundraiser for Romney at the former vice president's Wyoming home Thursday night. The $30,000-a-couple dinner outside of Jackson Hole will follow a reception at Teton Pines country club nearby. Together, the two events are expected to raise more than $2 million for the Romney campaign.

The evening represents Cheney's "grandest gesture to pass a torch to Romney," The Washington Post reports. But it also draws attention to Romney's "complicated and not always comfortable" relationship with the last Republican administration.

Also worth noting on Thursday: Henry Kissinger attends a Romney fundraiser in Connecticut; Rudy Giuliani campaigns in Virginia for Romney; and Dr Jill Biden attends a campaign event in Houston for Obama.

And then there is this: The Green Party 2012 Presidential National Convention opens in Baltimore. The party's presidential and vice presidential nominees will be selected Saturday.
