Journalists and the lawmakers they cover put politics aside to dine together.

April 28, 2013 -- intro: The president's job requires him to be many things: a diplomat, a scholar and for one night each year, a comedian.

On Saturday, for a few hours, journalists and the lawmakers they cover put politics aside to dine together and at least pretend to laugh as President Obama poked fun at himself and others in Washington.

It was the one night out of 364 when stars like "Veep's" Julia Louis-Dreyfus, "Modern Family's" Sofia Vergara and "Scandal's" Tony Goldwyn took the red carpet as guests of the media and newsmakers alongside inside-the-beltway celebs like Sen. Claire McCaskill, former presidential hopeful Newt Gingrich and, of course, the president himself.

Read on to see the president's best puns from the 2013 White House Correspondents' Dinner.

quicklist: 1title: Taking Himself Down a Pegtext: Obama took the podium Saturday night with the song, "All I Do is Win" by rapper DJ Khaled playing in the background.

"My advisers were a little worried about the new rap entrance music. They are a little more traditional. They suggested that I should start with jokes at my own expense. Just take myself down a peg. I was like, guys after four and a half years how many pegs are there left?"

quicklist: 2title: 99 Problemstext: The president noted that he had taken some heat lately for things like the Easter Egg Roll at the White House.

"Maybe I have lost a step," the president admitted, "but some things are beyond my control. For example this whole controversy about Jay Z going to Cuba. It's unbelievable. I've got 99 problems and now Jay Z is one of them."

"That's another rap reference," he told the audience.

quicklist: 3title: Obama's New 'Dotext: "I recognize that this job can take a toll on you," President Obama said of working as commander-in-chief. " I understand: second term, need a burst of new energy. Try some new things and my team and I talked about it. We were willing to try anything, so we borrowed one of Michelle's tricks."

A series of images then played showing the president sporting thick, dark bangs, similar to those the first lady debuted in 2012.

"I thought this looked pretty good but no bounce," Obama said.

quicklist: 4title: Giving the Crowd Something to Buzz Abouttext: The evening took a racy turn when President Obama joked about a newer organization on the news scene.

"The prolbem is that the media landscape is changing so rapidly you can't keep up with it," he told the audience. "I mean I remember when 'buzzfeed' was just something I did in college around 2 a.m."

"It's true," he added quietly.

quicklist: 5title: Super Punch to the Super PACtext: President Obama poked fun at the attempts conservative Super PACs made to derail him in 2012.

"Did you know that Sheldon Adelson spent $100 million of his own money on negative ads? You've got to really dislike me to spend that kind of money. I mean that's Oprah money," Obama said. "You could buy an island and call it 'nobama' for that kind of money."

"Sheldon would have been better off offering me $100 million to drop out of the race," he added. "I probably wouldn't have taken it, but I would have thought about it. Michelle would have taken it. You think I'm joking."

quicklist: 6title: Minority Outreachtext: Obama acknowledged that the Republican Party continues to work out what went wrong for them in the last election.

"One thing they all agree on is they need to do a better job reaching out to minorities," he said, "and look call it self centered, but I could think of one minority they could start with."

"Hello," he said, to laughs from the audience. "Think of me as a trial run. See how it goes."

media:

quicklist: 7title: Blame Gametext: President Obama reminded the crowd of reporters, politicians and celebrities that last week he visited Dallas, Texas for the opening of President George W. Bush's library.

"That inspired me to get started on my own legacy, which will actually begin by building another edifice right next to the Bush library,"he said. "Can we show that, please?"

With that, an image popped up showing former President Bush's library as the target of an arrow on a giant billboard beside it that read, "His Fault."
