July 26, 2007— -- Those of you who placed your bets on July 26, 2007 for the first back to back Howard Wolfson (sitting in for Sen. Clinton) v. David Axelrod (sitting in for Sen. Obama) cable talk show appearances, do not pass go and collect your winnings.
Nothing like a relatively slow summer news week to give the media exactly what it wants -- the Obama vs. Hillary take-the-gloves-off narrative.
The candidates engaged each other once again today. Sen. Obama alluded to Sen. Clinton's foreign policy/diplomacy answer in Monday's debate as "Bush-Cheney lite" which seemed to cause Sen. Clinton to question "what's ever happened to the politics of hope?" LINK
The nearly week long to and fro nicely tees up Friday's Democratic presidential forum at the National Urban League's annual conference. Be on the lookout for any hints of the Democratic battle when Clinton, Obama and John Edwards address the audience for 15 to 20 minutes each. They will not appear on stage together at the same time. Dennis Kucinich will also participate in the forum.
Later, Clinton participates in an economic policy town hall meeting at West Virginia State University at 3:30 pm ET and delivers remarks at the President's Award Banquet, 88th National Beauty Culturists' League Convention in Fairfax Virginia at 7:00 pm ET.
Obama heads to Iowa after the forum for a rural issues summit in Adel at 4:45 pm ET and a block party in Winterset at 7:00 pm ET.
Edwards greets supporters in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina and joins Howard Dean to address the College Democrats of America's annual meeting in Columbia. between 6:30 and 9:00 pm ET.
Elizabeth Edwards raises coin for her husband in New Hampshire with solo house parties in Rye and Wolfeboro and North Conway.
Fred Thompson and Mike Huckabee team up as keynote speakers for the 34th annual American Legislative Council Convention national luncheon at the Marriot Hotel in Philadelphia, PA at 12:30 pm ET. Each candidates will have 15 to 20 minutes to address the crowd of about 2,000. Huckabee will host a media availability at the Marriot Hotel at 2:30 pm ET.
Mitt Romney, who sides with Sen. Clinton in the Obama vs. Clinton battle underway, is in the Hawkeye State giving supporters a chance to "Ask Mitt Anything" in Adel, Winterset, Knoxville, Oskaloosa and Ottumwa. LINK
(Romney also announced Thursday he will probably deliver a speech explaining the role his Mormon faith plays in his political life.) LINK
Rudy Giuliani -- he of the 106 press availabilities since Feb. 1 -- meets and greets Dallas residents at Wild about Harry's at 3:30 pm ET. John McCain is in New York City for a finance event hosted by Jewish Community Leaders. McCain then makes his way to South Carolina to join the Greenville Drive Minor League Baseball team at 7:00 pm ET.
Bill Richardson is also in the Granite state. He'll deliver a major policy address at a forum held by the World Affairs Council of New Hampshire in Manchester, before having a "Homeland Security Conversation" with the Salem Fire Department and hosting campaign events in Nashua and Derry.
Sam Brownback focuses his attention on healthcare, with a visit to the Cedar Rapids Crisis Pregnancy Centre and a tour of the Stem Cell Research Centre in Coralville. Brownback is scheduled to speak at the Genesis Healthcare Forum at 6:00 pm ET and attend the group's house part at 7:30 pm ET.
His wife Mary takes the Brownback brand to the rest of Iowa with stops in Greenfield, Audubon and Atlantic before hitting the Pottawattamie County Fair in Council Bluffs at 5:15 pm ET
President Bush presents the 2005 and 2006 National Medals for science and technology in the east Room of the White House at 2:00 pm ET.
Tom Tancredo attends the Republican Party of Iowa's lakeside reception at the Fisher's lake house in Clear Lake Iowa.
