Giuliani skips across the pond
Latest NH poll shows Clinton, Romney ahead in primary race
September 18, 2007 -- Some Republican candidates are focusing intently on early primary states – and it shows in polling. Rudy Giuliani is running a national campaign – and that also shows in polling. Expand that to an international campaign? Why not, if it includes a Churchill and a Thatcher photo op and some campaign cash.
Giuliani travels across the pond to London to bask in conservative nostalgia and raise some campaign coin. He meets with Winston Churchill's granddaughter Celia Sandys at an 8:00 am ET event (where he speaks) before delivering 2:00 pm ET remarks at the Inaugural Margaret Thatcher Bridge lecture at Mandarin Oriental Hyde Park. Well worth the jet lag for the Churchill and Thatcher photo ops in one fell swoop.
Speaking of those early state numbers…the latest Franklin Pierce University/WBZ show Hillary Clinton and Mitt Romney leading on their respective sides in New Hampshire.
On the Democratic side, Clinton comes in at 36 percent, Barack Obama has 18 percent, John Edwards has 12 percent and Bill Richardson has 10 percent. (Non-candidate, Emmy's-attendee Al Gore polls at 5 percent).
Romney is holding a seven point lead over Giuliani, with the former Massachusetts governor polling at 30 percent to the former mayor's 23 percent. John McCain is next with 14 percent and Fred Thompson brings up the rear with eight percent (what would that number have been if the former senator turned actor made an appearance in Durham two weeks ago?)
On the Republican campaign trail…Mitt Romney is in Florida for an appearance at the Leadership for America Rally held at Lake Sumter Market Square in The Villages. The event begins at 3:30 pm ET and Romney speaks at 5:30 p.m. His wife Ann raises coin in Shreveport, Louisiana.
