SNEAK PEEK: Pumped Up

January 30, 2008— -- 5 days until Super Tuesday

All eyes are on Arnold Schwarzenegger.

With Rudy Giuliani already in John McCain's corner, speculation is fierce as to whether California's governor will throw his support to the Republican '08er who emerged as the G.O.P.'s frontrunner after winning Tuesday's all-Republican Florida primary.

Calling him someone who shares his belief that you can have "a strong economy" and a "good environment," Schwarzenegger heaped praise on McCain while speaking Tuesday to the Sacramento Press Club.

If Schwarzenegger makes it out of the Reagan Library -- the site of Wednesday's G.O.P. debate -- without making an endorsement, one possible scenario would be for the actor-turned-politician to endorse McCain on Thursday in Los Angeles.

At present, there is a gap in McCain's schedule between his 11:15 am ET San Francisco fundraiser and his 9:00 pm ET fundraiser in Los Angeles.

As for the Democrats on Thursday, Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama are scheduled to hold their first one-on-one debate at 8:00 pm ET.

The debate, which will be televised by CNN, will be the first without the so-called "grown-up wing of the Democratic Party."

While John Edwards got out of the race Wednesday without endorsing Obama, he has always made it clear that he prefers Obama's politics to Clinton's.

Before the Iowa caucuses, he told ABC's Jake Tapper: "One of them believes change is necessary and the system doesn't work, and the other defends the system."

Obama and Clinton have alternative theories as to what it means to be running without the-son-of-a-millworker.

"Edwards and Obama were always, to some degree, swimming in the same lane of the pool," said Obama spokesman Robert Gibbs, per ABC's Sunlen Miller. "Now there's only one person in that lane, so I think that the choice for us gets very clear."

While the Obama camp is hoping that the Edwards departure will lead more anti-Clinton voters to coalesce around the Illinois Democrat, the Clinton camp is hoping to pick up delegates by courting former Edwards supporters in southern and border states like Alabama, Georgia, Tennessee, and Missouri.

With Edwards out of the picture, a Clinton campaign official told ABC News that the former first lady is weighing a television ad buy in Alabama and Georgia, two Feb. 5 states where the Clinton campaign is not currently running television ads.
