Sneak Peek: Can You Feel the Love Tonight?

April 08, 2008— -- Elton John performs solo in support of Sen. Hillary Clinton's presidential campaign Wednesday night at storied Radio City Music Hall in New York.

In a rare joint appearance of late, both the senator and former President Bill Clinton are expected to be on hand for remarks at the concert/fundraiser, called "Elton and Hillary: One Night Only". One thing that's sure not to come up on the stage tomorrow night, questions that Bill might actually support the widely discussed Columbia free trade deal that his wife opposes.

But before the day breaks and the singing begins, Wednesday is poised to follow Tuesday as another day dominated by foreign policy, as the '08ers weigh in on General David Petraeus' warning that the security situation in Iraq is "fragile" and "reversible" and that significant troop withdrawal might reverse military progress.

After hours of questioning from two Senate committees on Tuesday, Petraeus and Ambassador Ryan Crocker head to the House side of the capitol for more hearings.

The discussion continues over at the White House, when President Bush meets with Congressional leaders from both parties in the mid-afternoon. The meeting comes in advance of a speech Bush's has planned for Thursday covering what he heard from Petraeus and Crocker as well as State and Defense Department experts. ABC's Martha Raddatz reports that Bush will likely announce that troop deployments will go back to 12 month tours from 15 months and reiterate Petraeus' call for a pause in the drawdown of U.S. forces in mid-July.

In other news, the Republican Governors Association announced raising $7 million in the first quarter of the year. Their rivals, the Democratic Governors Association, announced bringing in $5.7 million in the same time period. The RGA also holds a slight cash on hand advantage, with $14.65 million in the bank to $10.5 million.

Speculation that Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice is interesting in the Republican vice presidential nod probably won't go away any time soon after it was reveled Ms. Rice visited a gathering of conservatives in Washington. One very influential conservative activist seemed quite impressed with idea of Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., putting Rice on the ticket. Read more about it here.
