Attorney General, FBI Director Met to Discuss Clinton Investigation
Lynch and Comey met in person Monday and discussed the FBI probe.
-- Attorney General Loretta Lynch and FBI Director James Comey spoke privately Monday about the bureau's examination of thousands of emails thought to be connected to longtime Hillary Clinton aide Huma Abedin, according to a source familiar with the situation.
The talk, which took place after a regularly scheduled national security meeting at the FBI yesterday, was a "one on one" discussion, according to the source who briefed ABC News.
The FBI, which previously investigated Clinton's use of a private email server while she served as secretary of state, has pulled the hard drive from a laptop used by Abedin's now estranged husband, Anthony Weiner, who is under investigation for allegedly sexting with a minor.
The source said the two talked about "the seriousness of the ongoing matter" which has caused a political firestorm in the final days before the Nov. 8 election. Lynch wanted to check in to see how the FBI chief is doing, the source told ABC News. The conversation was described as "cordial,” and it was the first time the two spoke in person since the latest controversy erupted on Friday.
The FBI and Lynch remain under pressure to release more information about the investigation. According to the source, Lynch has confidence in Comey to manage the developments in the probe.
