-- Voters in the state of Delaware are heading to the polls on Election Day 2016.
There are three electoral votes at stake in Delaware in the presidential race. Delaware’s electorate voted for every winning president from 1952 to 1996, holding the longest streak of any other state. This ended in 2000 as the state started leaning more Democratic than the national average.
Delaware is known as the “First State” because it was the first of the 13 states to join the Union, which ratified the Constitution in December 1787. Delaware has been unusually affluent. It had the country’s highest income levels during the twentieth century.
