Donald Trump and Possible VP Pick Indiana Gov. Pence Meet at Golf Club

— -- With the contest for naming vice presidential candidates heating up, Donald Trump met over the weekend with Indiana Gov. Mike Pence, two sources tell ABC.

The presumptive GOP nominee and Pence met with their spouses on Saturday at the Trump National Golf Club in New Jersey, according to two GOP sources.

Pence's associates have been told he's under consideration for the number two spot on the Republican ticket, a GOP source tells ABC.

Other possible GOP vice presidential candidates include New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, former Massachusetts Sen. Scott Brown, Tennessee Sen. Bob Corker, Oklahoma Gov. Mary Fallin, and Alabama Sen. Jeff Sessions. Former U.S. House Speaker Newt Gingrich of Georgia is also being vetted by the Trump team, according to the Washington Post. Less likely but plausible contenders include Iowa Sen. Joni Ernst, Florida Gov. Rick Scott and South Dakota Sen. John Thune.

According to Pence's office, Trump was the one to initiate the meeting with Pence. They were supposed to play golf, although the weather that day was iffy, sources told ABC News.

The governor's wife, Karen, and Trump's wife, Melania, were also at the meeting, sources said.

Marc Lotter, deputy campaign manager for Pence's re-election campaign, said, "The Pences enjoyed spending warm and productive time with the Trumps. They enjoyed talking about policies that are working in Indiana and the future of this country. Nothing was offered and nothing was accepted. The Pences are now happy to be back in Indiana getting ready for a full slate of Independence Day activities tonight and tomorrow."

Currently, the next scheduled meeting between Trump and Pence is on July 12 at a Trump fundraiser at the Columbia Club in Indianapolis, a traditional gathering place for the state's Republicans. Ticket prices for the event start at $2,700, with the most expensive costing $250,000.
