Elizabeth Warren on 'The View': Donald Trump Trying to 'Bully Me Into Shutting Up'
The Massachusetts senator blast Donald Trump on "The View."
-- The day after her first campaign appearance with Hillary Clinton, Sen. Elizabeth Warren today addressed allegations lobbed by Donald Trump that she made fraudulent claims about her ancestry.
Host Sunny Hostin of ABC's "The View" asked Warren to respond to Trump’s recent attacks alleging that Warren has made fraudulent claims that she is of Native America decent as a ploy to advance her career.
“What this is really about is can they bully me into shutting up,” Warren said. The liberal Massachusetts senator promised that Trump and the Republican party would be unsuccessful in their efforts.
“Donald Trump will say and do anything. So will [former Massachusetts Sen.] Scott Brown. Unlike most people, my brothers and I learned who we are from our families,” Warren said. “And the people who have hired me for my jobs, the work I've done, have all said that my background didn't have anything to do with it. They mostly didn't know about it.”
Brown has said that Warren should take a DNA test to prove her Native American heritage.
Warren did not entertain questions today about being a possible vice presidential pick for Clinton, but ABC News confirmed on Monday that she is being formally vetted as a possible VP pick, among others.
Warren insisted that her highly anticipated appearance with Hillary Clinton on Monday in Ohio was not about a possible Clinton-Warren ticket but rather about throwing her support behind the candidate she believes will be the next president.
When pressed on whether Warren could stand behind Clinton’s claims that she has never changed a senate vote based on contributions, Warren pivoted to attacking Trump, accusing him of offering “his big wet kiss to Wall Street.”
Whether her attacks against Trump have been effective remain to be seen, but she blamed Republicans for waiting “way too late” to refute the presumptive Republican nominee. Warren, on the other hand, said she would not wait. To host Joy Behar she said, “Donald Trump, now's the time to go after him. You bet.”
