Florida Congressional Candidate Greg Evers Announces AR-15 Giveaway After Orlando Massacre
A winner will be chosen from a list of those who have "liked" his Facebook page.
-- A Florida Republican state senator is giving away a custom-built semi-automatic rifle in a campaign Facebook contest a week after a gunman killed 49 people in Orlando.
Sen. Greg Evers, who is running for the 1st Congressional District seat, announced a "Homeland Defender Giveaway" contest to give residents of the district a chance to win a custom-built AR-15 semi-automatic rifle on Independence Day.
"With terrorism incidents on the rise, both at home and abroad, protecting our constitutional rights has never been more important," Evers said in a news release. "With all that's happening in the world today, I've never felt stronger about the importance of the Second Amendment in protecting our homeland than I do now."
The Homeland Defender AR-15 will also have the Second Amendment engraved in a metal plate just in front of the trigger guard.
A winner will be chosen at random from a list of those who have "liked" the "Greg Evers for Congress" Facebook page and "shared" a post from the page.
The giveaway is available only to those 18 years or older who are residents of the district and can pass a federal criminal background check, according to his campaign's news release.
Evers has served in the Florida Legislature since 2001, including the Senate the past six years.
The National Rifle Association has given him an A-plus grade for the past 15 years.
