Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton Vote in New York Primary
Clinton and Trump lead in the Empire State, according to recent polling.
-- The presidential front-runners have cast their ballots in the New York primaries.
Democratic presidential contender Hillary Clinton voted with former President Bill Clinton in a gymnasium at the Douglas G. Grafflin elementary school near their home in Chappaqua, New York.
Republican candidate Donald Trump cast his ballot at Central Synagogue in Manhattan, telling ABC News' Tom Llamas that he feels good about his chances in the state.
“It would mean a lot [to win],” he said while exiting the synagogue.
Llamas asked Trump whether rival GOP candidate Ted Cruz should drop out if he loses by a landslide tonight.
“I would certainly say so,” Trump said, “but it’s up to him.”
Recent polling has Trump with a wide lead over Cruz and Ohio Gov. John Kasich. If he can pull off a win with majority support across all regions of the state, Trump will collect all 95 delegates at stake.
"Putting in that vote today was really something terrific," Trump said later, standing outside Trump Tower after casting his ballot.
Trump's wife Melania also voted today, telling Llamas “it was a very exciting day” and she’s “very proud” of her husband.
“It’s amazing to see his name and to vote for him,” Mrs. Trump said.
Although two of Trump’s children -- Eric and Ivanka -- missed the deadline to register to vote in the primary, Donald Trump Jr. cast his ballot.
“It will be a big deal if we lose by two votes,” Trump Jr. said outside his Manhattan polling location, referring to his siblings, “but that’s not going to happen.”
He added: “I’m excited. I mean it’s a big deal and we’ve known this all along but this is a whole new perspective actually getting to put pen to paper for it."
On the Democratic side, Clinton has led rival Sen. Bernie Sanders by double digits in recent polling, where 249 delegates are up for grabs today.
As Clinton walked to the voting booth, she joked to the press, "This is a private ballot!"
“This has been a joy during the last two weeks to be here all over the state and I hope everyone gets out to vote," Clinton said. "I had a great time going around the city in the last couple days. Just seeing a lot of old friends, meeting new people. And I just urge everybody, please, come out and vote before 9 p.m. tonight.”
